No Signal but can't cancel contract for less than £350!!

Hi all, Please advise!
I have been with T Mobile for about 6 years and never had a problem with reception. However, I have recently moved and have no signal in my new house or within the vicinity.

99% of the time I cannot make or receive calls. Emergency calls only. I can sometimes make a quick call when positioned in a particular area, but it will always cut out if I just turn my head slightly! I live on Upper Cliff Road and there are no tall buildings around at all.

I am contracted for at least another 12 months, what are my rights?
Today a rep insisted I have good signal according to their diagnostic thingy and that I would have to pay off the rest of the contract, over £300.

If you moved, then you can do nothing but pay up to end the contract or give the sim to someone you trust to use somewhere where they can get reception.

They won't cancel the cotract because there's no signal after you moved. You could try downgradin it to the cheapest option and then paying the remainding off.

As stated, you have no hope on this with the operator, at all. Contracts protect both sides, and this favours the operator.

You changed your circumstances and moved to and out of signal area. This was your choice and the lack of signal is your responsibility. The operator only guarantees signal outside the house of the address where the contract was originally taken out at. I.e. Your original home address.

The alternative is that the operator takes down a mast and your initial home address and no signal is available for a period of time. On this circumstance you can cancel as the service is no longer provided.

I can provide an analogy about this if you still think its unfair.

I'd get a cheap payg phone on another network just to use at home.

T-mobile and orange are going to merge networks very soon, so you will be able to get signal if you can get a signal on orange.

  • If the t-mobile coverage checker says you can get a signal where you moved to, but you can't, than there has to be some responsibility on T-Mobile?

Unless there's a disclaimer on the service checker that says it's not 100% accurate...
    =)
  • Thanks for all your help. I have since spoken to another rep, who after speaking to her manager offered me 2 months credit, for the 6 weeks i have lived at new address, I couldn't believe it!

Then, she rang me back and reckoned a cell site was down and offered me 3 months free line rental to see if the problem might be solved in the meantime. By then I hope orange and T mobile will have merged because I don't think they will waive the contract. But, I am happy, and surprised, with this resolution.

    Thanks again everyone,
    Niamh

Strange, but have you tried a different phone??
My issue is with Vodaphone and since I changed to the LG KS360 I have little problems now - much better, but strange.
