Continuous Ink System CIS CISS Canon

I got the bit about buying bulk ink, not the bit about paying £80 for a system that only has the equivalent of 2.64 sets of compatibles.
That is based on this ink system

It's a bit swing and roundabouts. If you don't do much printing then it isn't worthwhile, but when printing the calendars mentioned above, I can get through more than 20 cartridges worth of ink - and that's for each colour. With the canon printers, even the compatible cartridges cost around £5, and there are 5 individual cartridges. A set of inks is around £16 for 100ml (or 10 cartridges worth).
Having said that, continuousink.com are one of the more expensive places to get your CISS from, and they seem to have become more expensive since I bought mine (back in 2007).0
