My latest freeview recorder box behaves very oddly!! (Hitachi HDR 165)

It misses recordings set via the guide, progs appear in the library or in the timer list that were never set myself!!

You can't get info on progs using now n next, using guide mutes the sound!, series link never appears, you can't amend recordings via the guide, slow epg, goes into power save even though powersave not on!

Other boxes I've had either have slow epg's, series link doesn't work, freezing, resetting, noisy fan, picture in picture stuck on screen! Also starting the prog too late or ending early!!!

Are they made too cheap/expected to do too much/poor design?? ???

No, but you bought the wrong one. Tried a Humax PVR 9300T? Early ones suffered from both fan noise and slow EPG, but recent software upgrades have resolved these issues.

Ive had a Toshiba DVDR/HDD Freeview box for nearly three years - never had any major probs. recording with it, or with EPG display.

A second vote for the Humax.

Hitachi don't make any video/audio products these days, they just badge cheap stuff, mainly sold by Argos.

Hi I luv cats, just to let you know I have the HDR165 as well and am having problems, thought it was just my recorder but obviously not. Every programme I record on channel 4, it automatically sets to record on channel 4 +1, which is damn annoying and it locks up at least once a week. Looks like there is a problem with this make, so I will be returning mine. Diane

There are some odd reviews of it on the net.

I am annoyed that it looks like Hitachi have stuck their badge on an inferior model.

I am ok if I record using timer/add typing in my own recordings manually.

It seems that it decides to record the next time an original prog is on, on its own!! It doesn't like it if you try to record the same prog @ a later time unless you delete it from the library.

I dread taking it back as they are such a pain in the derriere @ returns sometimes, also I have taken insurance out on it!!
