I have one premium bond that I have had for 41 years and it has never won a penny.

My daughter suggested I cash it in and buy a lottery scratchcard.

The odds on winning the lottery are probably better than my one premium bond winning anything.

    What do others think?

No offence, but have you SERIOUSLY taken the time out to post a thread seeking advice on what to do with a £1 premium bond?

You're taking the p**s, arent you?

I have a number of premium bonds which have won small amounts, including some ancient £1, £2 and £5 ones bought in the middle of the last century! (that sounds ancient, doesn't it?). None of my low denomination bonds like this have won anything but the value of them is so small that even if I costed out my time at Minimum Wage rate, it would cost more in time than their value is worth , to go through the admin of cashing them in so I'm leaving them there.

I posted about my PB to keep my young daughter happy as I was just going to shove it back into the box where it has been for the past 41 years. She wanted me to buy a lottery scratchcard with it so I said (with tongue in cheek) I would ask on the Internet for advice.

I have no intention of cashing it in and buying a £1 scratchcard.

    I know it is only a £ but a £ is a £.

And look at all the other posters who read and answered my post, are they taking the p**s?

I base it on my return of 1.5% for £30,005 and this year to date 1x£25 since 1st January 2010, as an investment a waste of time, but as I said if you bothered to read before pmt kicked in, you gotta be innit to win it

You are only supposed to have upto £30k.

are there 2 holders numbers in your name?

Might want to get that fixed.

Give her a quid to buy a scratchcard and pretend you sold the PB.

    Sorted.

I have 10.00 worth purchased in 1964, when my Grandad, had a big win on the horses.

Around 5 years ago I received a nice cheque from the Ernie for 500.00. It will probably never win again, but I've kept it in, so the old small numbers do come out now and then.
