Proof of redundancy for JSA?

I got a redundancy letter but the Job Centre didn't ask to see it. I told them I'd been made redundant and they clearly took me at my word. However, a friend goes to a different Job Centre to me a a couple of miles away and they asked for sight of her letter.

She didn't show it to them as it had her redundancy pay calculations on it and she didn't see why they should see those, they only asked the once at her initial interview, she just said she didn't have it with her. They did ask her to bring it to her first 'signing on' but she didn't bother and they never asked again.

I think 'not bothering' is a poor excuse to be honest.

I have to say that there are two simple items that are needed when you sign on, and anything extra that you can provide is useful.

Every company should provide, in written words, notification of redundancy. If its a future notification. If its instant, and on the day you leave, the company has to provide you with a final letter to 'close' your employment, confirm it, and will either hand you or send you within a few days a P45.

The more you can supply the jobcentre, the more they will help. 'Not bothering' is just idle.

    good luck

Just as well 'not bothering' wasn't my excuse for not providing it then! The Job Centre didn't ask me to provide it - & never have, if they had I'd have given it to them.

"Idle', not really - don't ask, don't get. They've never asked and I'm not a mind reader. It's not my friends job to tell me what the Job Centre require, it's their job. Clearly they didn't want mine. They asked for any info I had regarding company pension - & I supplied it.
Seen it all, done it all, can't remember most of it.

Sorry, was on the wrong side of the mood yesterday. But there are just a few things to provide which proves redundancy, sometimes a wage slip shows a final redundancy payment too, best of luck.

Plus the final payment may or maynot effect the first payment you recive on JSA . Ie a redudency payout.
