My DFS sofa is still going strong after 8 years, but in no way do I EVER believe it was for sale for £1500 and that I got an amazing bargain at £400, BUT having no cash and being able to pay a few quid each month to get it, it was fine for me!!
    Dodgy Flipping Selling!!

Are they playing fast and loose with the rules?

Surely in order to have a sale you have to have a 'normal' price at some point in time!
I think the way they do it is by lines or ranges, so they rotate what's on sale and what's not.

They've always got a sale, just not on everything at once....
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

I remember reading an article where the marketing director of DFS stated that they only had 2 sales in the year, he just neglected to mention they lasted 363 days of the year.
    Back by no demand whatsoever.

They mentioned it in there adverts last year as well. Its because they call the others things like discount events and not sales (we all know they are the same thing really).

That and managers discounts, reduced to clear, new stock offers. Oh and dont forget simply increasing the "discount".

  • I would never buy from DFS because of all of these sales! We bought our sofa from Ikea. It's brilliant. 18 months of daily use and it looks exactly the same as the day we got it delivered. Apart from 1 cat scratch!!!
  • I know one guy who works in the manufacture of sofa for SCS and he is in the UK, so not everything comes from China. according to him all leather work is of east oragin so perhaps there is a lesson in that.

As far as sales go, DFS have a store (i believe in Scotland) where there are full priced items only, allowing after (28 days?) reductions nationwide.

On sale at any store are numerous cheap sofas looking like bargains and one or two quality (relative term) sofas for £2000. these never go on sale as after a fixed sale period they are removed and replaced. i once tracked a £2700 set for 12 months waiting for it to crash, it just dissapeared from sale, it was then i geeked the detail out of my regional manager and then got over it.

Having said that, for MSE fans, 3 piece, brand new 3 4yrs interest free, under £1000, its not all bad is it?
Marry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!
