Six weeks ago I bought this from Argos:
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/4064138/c_1/1|category_root|Kitchen+and+laundry|14418476/c_2/3|cat_15701316|Vacuum+cleaners|14418639.htm
It has since died. It will work for about three minutes before cutting out. I opened it and half of the rubber mounts inside have melted.
I can't find the recipet.
I very much doubt that I have any consumer rights at all, but I might be wrong. Is there anything I can do? If i'd had the recipet I would have simply have taken the piece of rubbish back.
This is the second electrical appliance I have bought from Argos, also the second to die.
Never again.

Except it's not a "hoover" (which is a specific brand name), but a vacuum cleaner made by Bush. If you are not careful Hoover will be after you for libel. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0

How did you pay for it, do you have a credit card statement with the purchase on it for example?Herman - MP for all!0

Nothing useful to say?
Not being a total plank, I'm aware that hoover is technically a brand name, however I also have a reasonable grasp of the law so am not overly concerned about being sued for defamination.Leftie and proud :beer:0 -
I payed by debit card, I may have an entry on my bank statement for it. Would this suffice in place of a recipt?Leftie and proud :beer:0

Taken from the consumer direct site...
Locate your proof of purchase. If you haven’t got a receipt, you can use a credit or debit card statement or cheque stub.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Excellent. Would the fact that I opened the case infringe on this? I'm sure I can put it back together so it looks untampred with.Leftie and proud :beer:0

I am fully aware that "hoover" is used as a generic term in everyday conversation. But to use the term "crap hoover" in the title of a thread about a faulty vacuum cleaner is entirely different. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -
There does usually tend to be some sort of small print in the T&C's of the manufacturer's warranty that states the appliance should not be tampered with or repaired by an unauthorised person.
The fact you opened it doesn't negate the fact the item is faulty imo so personally I'd be putting it back together very carefully and I'd omit to mention that part when I took it back.
trisonata, it's clear from the OP's post that she is not talking about an actual Hoover. Think you're being a tad extreme here.Herman - MP for all!0 -

Except in the title, which would be picked up if you did a search on this forum or via Google. It's misleading. What part of "A whop bop-a-lu a whop bam boo" don't you understand?0 -

I don't agree it's particularly misleading I'm afraid.
Most people call a hoover a hoover regardless of whether it's a Hoover, a Dyson, a Panasonic etc etc. It's largely a generic term these days. Most people also wont care what make the title refers to. A two second read of the post makes it clear what machine the OP refers to.
Any legal bods who happened to come across this page and did care, wouldn't automatically jump to launching a libel case, they would simply ask for the title to be changed.
However I accept you are entitled to your view so we'll agree to disagree?Herman - MP for all!0
