SCS Faulty Sofa

Options
Ordered my sofa from SCS 10 weeks ago, It arrived on Thurs, Thurs afternoon noticed one of the recline seats on the sofa was not working, called the store who said they would send a manager out the next day, Manager arrived and agreed it was faulty, said I would get a call the next day to see what we wanted to do. Decided as the sofa is one day old and already having problems do not it it repaired as knowing my luck the fault or another one will appear after warranty expired. Not willing to wait another 10wk's for another sofa. Decided I'd ask for a refund it & get another from else where.

Manager called the next day, told him I wanted a refund. To which he told me a manager would have to come and inspect it, told him it had all ready been done... then he told me the people that came out yesterday were not managers. So they had lied to me. Told them I can't take anther day off work this week, and since they had already sent someone, it's not my problem.

He got snippy with me
told me I could only have a repair. I don't see why I should have to accept a repair on 1 day old sofa. Called there head office. They said they would look into it and call me back shortly.... Still waiting. Going to call them back on Tues as no doubt they will closed with bank holl tomorrow.

Can anybody give me any advice please

I gather that retailers have the option of repairing whatever they sell before replacing it, however new it is...

Happened to me also with dfs i advise you to tell them on the phone that you choose to refuse the sofa and want a full refund under the sale of goods act. Just keep repeating this to every person you speak to from the sofa company it will probably take a few weeks to get sorted but it will if you are persistant.

I have posted the saga i had with dfs it may help you with yours, also tell them you will get the furniture ombudsman involved, check out my posts relating to dfs and i hope it helps you.
    stay firm and positive.

Doesn't the Sale of Goods Act say the seller has the option of repairing the offending item?

Thanks purplejac, Will have a read through the post's. Managed to get hold of a friend who knows there stuff on these matters, who says I can tell them I'm rejecting the goods due to fault and can refuse there offer for a repair. Hopefully it doesn't take to long to get sorted. Have a feeling SCS is going to make it as difficult as possible

Apparently as long as fault is apparent with in reasonable time (some places say 7-14days. You can reject the goods as not fit for purpose

Given the short timescale I see no problem in rejecting...Well apart from the fight your going to have with SCS but hold your ground threaten court, send letter before action etc etc I'm sure they will eventually relent

  • I recommend contacting trading standards, they are very helpful. I had many problems with SCS, and TS helped me get a resolution.

But Henry is my cat's name, and Hoover is my mother's maiden name. When the cat goes to the vet, the receptionist always shouts "Henry Hoover" :A
