Cheap accomodation near Alton Towers

Options
Does anyone know any cheap accomodation near Alton Towers? Thinking of going one weekend in October and looking to stop over Friday and Saturday evening.

Ideally looking for a room for 2 adults and 3 children.

Would consider a room for 2 adults and 1 child, and a second room for 2 children if it was cheap enough!

We stayed at the Travelodge in Ashbourne when we went in June. It was about 15 mins drive from there to the park. Fairly new TL, with parking. It has a new pub next door called the Stepping Stones and acrsoo the Road from the pub is a Trading Estate that has a Marks and Spencers for papers snacks etc. We booked in advance in a sale and got it for £19 a night. The max allowed in a family room is 2 adults and 2 children.

Yep, quite a few travelodges and Premier Inns around Alton Towers :).
  • Thanks - had a look at Travel Lodge and Premier Inn but couldn't find any saver rates for Fri and Sat evenings in October :(

We'd need two rooms as it's max 4 in a room, and there's 5 of us.

We stayed in a Best Western in Stoke-on-Trent. We are a family of 5 and we got a room for 4 and they put in a camp bed for DS. Mind I wouldn't be in a hurry to share a room with 4 other people again. We paid for a package with the tickets.

I've also stayed in the Stoke on Trent Moathouse but we only have 4 people (we paid with Tesco clubcard vouchers), this year I have managed to get a £9 Travelodge.
Holiday Inn Express Stoke on Trent have rooms avail on the 2 for 1 deal on the 1st/2nd, 8th/9th and 15th/16th October, works out at £65 per room for the 2 nights, the rooms are again max 4 people but depending on the ages of your kids it may be worth ringing and asking if they would accept 5 in the room, if not £130 for 2 nights in 2 rooms incl breakfast is quite good deal.
Scarefest starts on the 16th October, we went last year and going back this year, park is open later until 9 or 10, aswell as having extra mazes etc, may be worth considering.

We stay at a premier inn in Derby when we go as they are often around £30 - £40 per night or £29 if you get the saver rate. They're around a 30-40 minute drive away depending on which one you book.

We have already got a Fri and Sat night booked in October for scarefest and got a rate of £30 per night at Derby east. We stayed the same weekend there last year for £29 per night but that was the saver rate (ie no cancellation/refund).

Last time we stayed over we had two rooms at the Crewe Bathomley travelodge, think they were £25 a room, it was fine, it's about 30 mins from Alton Towers but quite a straightforward drive, there is a Little Chef on site also. We've just booked it again for November - one room was £12.50 and one was £23.50, both are family rooms.

    Also forgot to say.....

We once stayed at the Uttoxeter travelodge on a £9 deal and it was a complete dump. Dark, dingy, smelly, dirty, unfriendly staff... the list went on. Even at £9 I felt ripped off. Wherever you choose to stay I'd advise you not to stay here!!!
  • Thanks.

I really like the look of the Stoke Best Western and we have Tesco vouchers. I think I'll investigate that one!

With Tesco clubcard we were able to book a family room at Best Western Stoke on Trent Moathouse, we also stayed 3 nights, sun, mon & tues, the rate you pay is Leisure Break B&B same as on the website, you need to pay for the kid's breakfasts, I think it was £5 per child per day, hope you get something booked.
