Washing Machine leaving grey marks on clothes......

Has anyone else had their washing machine leaving grey marks on their clothes? They don't shift all. I have cleaned out all the bits of the machine I can get to and put a washing machine cleaner product through a cycle and its still doing it. Its 4 years old and its a servis washer dryer - I think servis have gone out of business so if I can't come up with anything am just going to have to buy a new one.......:(

have you tried doing a boil wash just with nothing in or pop your towels in and pop some vinegar in tray may clear it out,if not not sure what to suggest you could ring servis's helpline see if they have been passed to somebody else, sounds strange though about the marks:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

Agree with LJM's boil wash idea - you could throw in some soda crystals too - you get them in most supermarkets, usually on the hard to see bottom shelves so I'm attaching a link so you know what to look for http://www.thegreenstoreonline.co.uk/default.aspx/Page/97/Product/694
they're usually around the cleaning products/washing powder area.0 -
Sorry to say this but grey marks from a washing machine are "usually" caused by the drum bearing starting to fail and the grease and metal particles getting into the wash water and causing marks.
Does it sound noisier than it used to?
Or is it taking longer and longer to complete the wash?
The UKWHITEGOODS site is a good place to look for repair advice, or help choosing a new machine“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
yes it does sound noisier and take longer.......think its time to invest in a new one! Will have a look at that website tho, thanks0

i bought a new one not long ago my old one lasted for donkeys and was repaired, alot, it was a hotpoint and i love the make yet i wanted a nother but found the cheapest place to be tescos and i got a great deal £ 270.00 for machine they took old one away and because it was over £250 i got free delivery,1000 extra tescos points plus a extended garrenty pretty good deal i thought considering the price of hotpoints:xmastree:Is loving life right now,yes I am a soppy fool who believes in the simple things in life :xmastree:0

I agree, am definitely going to go for a hotpoint, the 2 washer dryers I had before the servis one were both hotpoints and they lasted 5+ years, had no problems (despite people warning me off washer dryers!) and the dryer bit was miles better than the servis.0

A quote from the UK Whitegoods site...
"Hotpoint appliances had a reputation for being one of the easiest machines to fault find and repair. Sadly however that is not the case today. With the take over of the brand by Indesit the introduction of complex Indesit electronics that are very prone to failure and the additional curse of a totally sealed outer drum means that this is no longer true. Their own engineers have dedicated software on their laptops which is used to fault diagnose and re programme the electronics. This information is not available to the independent trade. However at UK Whitegoods we have a wealth of experienced engineers who are able to help you freely in most cases with advice on faults.
It is sad to have to say that the reliability of current Hotpoint appliances does not inspire confidence. "

Ours did have grey marks and a quick Google gave lots of ideas to try. the several empty boil washes worked well and 3 months on the marks haven't returne.Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

Hi
Sounds like a similar problem that we had, called the engineer out for our Indesit washing machine and suggested that we stop using the liquid and go back to using bio powder.
It takes a number of hot washes to clear, but has worked.
The grey deposits are from the liquid washing powder. The engineer showed us the inside of the machine, and looked like a grey oily sludge, there is also a smell.0 -
A modern washing machine is only expected to last 2-3 years (mainly because they can't be repaired, because the back doesn't come off). Buy the cheapest you can find, and pay for the extended warranty.0
