I bought some tags from Home Bargains about 2 months ago which were quite cute. They quoted 'Handmade by ...' with pictures of sewing threads / buttons / tools and look quite cute. I don't know if I have described that very well lol! If i remember rightly they where about 50p and had about 30 in.

However, as this thread is about handcrafting, I guess the tags should be handmade too ;)
Unfortunately, although there's Home Bargain's in my area, none that I can get to easily. And yes, I was planning on hand making them ;) I was thinking cutting them out of card and drawing on simple designs in silver marker then attaching them with string :)
Sock monkeys-never made them so would love to see pics of you guys ones. :T
There's a thread floating around somewhere with lots of pics :D

A few websites I use for ideas:
    http://www.craftbits.com/christmas-crafts

    http://www.marthastewart.com/photogallery/easy-holiday-crafts

http://www.channel4.com/4homes/on-tv/kirstie-s-homemade-home/ -there are some links to the other show 'kirstys home made christmas'. I still have all of her shows recorded! Watching them makes me feel christmassy!

And an old thread from MSE https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/1995035

Id like to join please ? I made a small start last year at making a couple of hampers which I did for couples nights in and enjoyed getting them . They went down a treat and saved me lots of cash rather than buying presents people didn't really want anyhow :o

So im very motivated to get the homemade presents rolling this year ...Ive been a bit lost for what thow , but after reading this thread I'm already getting ideas and cant wait to see more pics :D.

I think in the next couple of weeks I will get a list together for who / what Im going to make , and keep my eyes out in shops for ideas :o

  • I have about 16 jars of jam made, and will be putting a good few of those into hampers. I hope to make some chutney in the next few weeks as well, and a batch of mincemeat (I made a delia one last year that was VERY well received). I have a batch of raspberry vodka infusing, and one small bottle of blackcurrant vodka (although that is an experiment and I MAY have to sample the results myself :) ).

I am taking 3 days off this week, to help DD settle into school. And I plan on taking out my sewing machine for the quiet mornings. I have materials to make a duvet and pillow cover set (Disney characters), and Christmas teddies PJ's for DD, crayon rolls for various nieces and nephews, I am using the same concept to make make-up brush rolls for 2 of my sisters, and I need to finish a tote bag for a little boy to carry his toys in. I want to make some dollie clothes too, and sew together a few Christmas tree decorations I have cut out.

I have a lap blanket on the knitting needles for an elderly aunt.

And then, I have more cooking presents to make very close to the day itself - I already froze cookie dough a while ago which I'll bake on Christmas eve, and I will make a few sweets and truffles and things that week too. And hopefully a batch of fudge as well.

The last thing on my list is a batch of sloe gin - I have to collect the sloes when we visit the PIL's in 2 weeks time, and I have the gin and the large bottle, and the sugar, all ready to get mixed together.

  • Hi i have a 2.5 year old so i am making lots of bits and bobs for her. But i know that doesnt count ;)
I know these arent xmas presents, as i have already given them, but they might inspire some people! I made my mum a peg bags for mothers day, and an iphone cover, which fabric on the outside and felt on the inside. I also made her some xmas bunting (if i gave it to her for xmas it would be too late to put up!!). I made a big bag of old sweets for my SIL and last year i made lots of coconut ice and home made truffles!

This year I plan to make a family tree exploding box for one, if not both of our mums.
    covered shopping lists
    pints of socks
bah humbugs (cellophane packaged (by me) humbugs
mini wheat bags, to fit inside pockets and gloves!
    marble magnets
    might make this holder http://modpodgerocks.blogspot.com/2009/03/possibly-coolest-pen-organizer-ever-and.html
    vinyl bowls
    homemade bird food

thats all i can think of for now!

Having read this i will make some lemon curd!

    Claire!

    I've been Money Tipped!
i am also planning on making some jams and chutneys - just as soon as i buy the jars! i will then add them to homemade cookies and fudge (possibly a xmas cake) and other foodie bits to give to adults in my family

for my kids aged 2 and 3 i am going to make some 'rocks' with little toys inside (dinosaurs for ds and rings for dd) which they can break away with toy hammers and to dig up some treasures! these will probaly go into their stockings. im just trying to source some sand now.

i am also planning on making the market and post office from this house http://sewcando.blogspot.com/2010/03/felt-house-along-revealed-house.html but i am going to find a way to attach it to the wall so it can be rolled up and packed away.

i always like the kids to 'make' something to give to family members. this year we are buying some little paper mache boxes from hobbycraft and the kids will decorate them. then we'll make some fairy buns or crispie cakes and pop a bun in each box.
the kids are very proud when they give homemade presents out and everyone loves recieving them, so that goes down well.
