This sounds like a fab challenge! Christmas is such a commercialised time of year that I resent paying inflated prices in december for mass produced items that will probably be broken by january!
I have already knitted one scarf and made a few pieces of jewellery for gifts. I bought all my wrapping paper, cards and crackers in the sales in january so should be sorted on that front.
I have set up a spreadsheet of gifts & recipients so I can keep track of everything that I have made / crafty bits to be made into something. I usually lurk on these boards and have gained some fantastic ideas for pressies. The only problem is that I want to make everything that I see!
I think the women will be easy, not so the men! I don't think my OH would be too chuffed with me knitting him a jumper! May try my hand at flavoured vodka (?) as I am sure that is something he wold love! Not too sure how I would stop him from discovering it though!

I look forward to seeing all the wonderful makes!

    Here's my list:

Notebooks for shopping lists (cheap ones covered)
Pens I covered with matching paper for shopping lists

Painted ''smile'' on four pebbles to give to people

Button necklaces -made from mums old buttons

Key rings with pebbles on -found some in the garden with holes in them

Can't think of anything else at the minute.........:)

Those are fantastic ideas and the smile on the rocks are adorable, i so want to do that as i know i would love those if i received them,
Also the keyrings, aren't naturally holey stones Good Luck? so that's a great gift *especially if they win the lotto :p*

I'm doing mostly homemade. It's not so much about what I'll save though as the fact that money is short so I've got to make a little bit go a long way iykwim.

Money is going to the teens in the family, doubt they would be impressed with anything different, thought to be honest I was probly the same at their age ;) I will also do some little stocking bits like notebooks etc.

    for the rest I'm doing

Elderly friends, food hampers with homemade bread, chutneys and pickles and some shop brought cheese

Elderly relatives, same as above plus h/m photo family old photos album

Dad, food hamper like above but also with one of my pims and lemonade bacon joints, a dundee cake, and some marmalade, jam and curd, the last 3 will be comeing h/m from my cousin in exchange for some of my chutneys and pickles :D I am also making him a scrapbook of his holiday photos.

Other members in the extended family will either be getting family history books, or family history charts.

Friends, crafting items such as fabric covered albums, notebooks, dollshouse miniatures, mini craft hampers depending on their interest

So far I've started making the chutneys and pickles, dads scrapbook album and some dollshouse items. I have done the family history books on the pc, just need to print and bind them. I will do the dundee cake in sept (following my grans tradition) and I need to decide how I'm doing the family history charts.

    Busy few months ahead.

  • Made 1 out of 3 Sock Monkey's so far. Also doing 2 Towel Cakes and 2 Flannel Reindeer (which are going to be decorations rather than presents but I'll present them to my mum when she's putting out the Christmas stuff.) I'm also making a folding box for my nana's birthday and one for a forum secret santa that I take part in. Everything I've made or put together myself will have a little tag on it saying "Handmade by Me" :)

Forgot to mention -I've done two family tree type scrapbooks for my two boys (both grown up now)
I did the actual 'tree' part by printing out an image of a tree and putting the names of the ancestors I'd got from dads side on one then did another for mums side. If I'd done a 'tree' for all branches they'd have been no room for the photos I've put in of Mum and dad when they were little, when they got married, and when my boys were born etc.
It wasn't cheap what with paper and embellishments -to do but it's a one-off.......they'll not get another one.
Still at least what I've saved on all the other 'home made' bits has helped towards the scrapbook costs.:)
I would be unstoppable if only I could get started !

I bought some tags from Home Bargains about 2 months ago which were quite cute. They quoted 'Handmade by ...' with pictures of sewing threads / buttons / tools and look quite cute. I don't know if I have described that very well lol! If i remember rightly they where about 50p and had about 30 in.

However, as this thread is about handcrafting, I guess the tags should be handmade too ;)
