Hope everyone had a lovely Christmas!

I just wanted to pop on here to thank you all for giving me & hubby the inspiration to make our first ever hampers for the family this year. We made up identical hampers for all, and kept it fairly simple:

    spiced orange vodka
    toffee vodka
    vanilla vodka
sloe gin (never tried this before, and OMG this will definitely be made again!)

    tomato chutney
    dried fruit chutney
    picalilli
    chilli jam

So far, we've given the hampers to my parents and to my brother/SIL. The reaction we got was better than we could ever have hoped for. I've been worried that home-made was somehow second-best, but they have all said that they have loved the thought, energy & effort that went into making them up. We're so chuffed :)

Hoping for a similar reaction from the in-laws tomorrow: will update !

thanks again all, I'll be popping in on this thread for next year's hampers !

Just back from my parents, and the WHOLE family loved thehampers. They didnt want to open them because of how good they looked. My brother was like "did you make all of this?" He was amazed! Gave me a warm glow, to see how impressed they were with my home made hampers. :) Hope you all had a good day. x

  • Just wanted to come and say that despite my worrying, my mum loved the scarf I knitted her and was really surprised and impressed :D Was having a hard time because we've been making a dress on her sewing machine together and she started going on about how I should try knitting and knit something simple like a scarf with big needles, which is of course exactly what I'd already done! So was having to try and appear nonchalant and not blurt anything out!

It's lovely to give something special you've made and it be appreciated.... warm glow indeed :D

My Mum tasted the cranberry bites me and my little girl made and she loved them..... my sister really enjoyed her gingerbread chocolate stars too :)

Next year I'm going to be a little more adventurous I think - at least I've got plenty of time to plan for it!!!!!!!!!

I have just finished printing a wedding photo onto canvas paper and staple gunning to a canvas block for my brother who got married earlier this year and i have to say it looks great and was so easy to do.

Hi dizzytina, can you please tell me where you can buy canvas paper? Did it go through printer easily and not crack when bending round frame?

ps To all - I've really enjoyed this thread and my hampers were definitely the best gifts ever - my daughter did some and they were impressive and well received too. Gonna keep this going through the year!! Cheers !

All the things I made have been well received (thank goodness............lol)
Thought for 2011 I'd try and have a ''cost free'' christmas starting with button necklaces -thought I'd more buttons left than I have so googled and shock horror -the price  Anyone know anywhere to get them where I don't need a bank loan............lol
Even the ones in the charity shops are going up in price now it seems (well last time I looked anyway)
