Another small spend here, £6.67 on some bread flour, mayo, 12 sausages (1/2 price), baguette (for lunch today) 4 naan bread (reduced to 22p per pack), yoghurts and a loaf of brown and white bread. That should last me now until we go away on Friday. Eating at mums all weekend so it should help with the budget a bit ! :D

    £0.00/£10,000
  • Had another spur of the moment £2 in Mr S today but it was to buy some stuff to make a crumble as we've got some pears we need to use up that are a bit soft now.

Also bought a book but have put that in another budget.
    Mortgage£148,725 Student loan£13,050 HSBC loan£12,221

  • no spends for me to report but will be needing to pop to the shops tomorrow or friday for:

milk, bread, eggs, lurpak, onions, peppers, mushrooms and i will be sticking to that list!

i just been in my kitchen & checked the fridge, freezer & cupboards - we have allsorts in & dont need much from the shops apart from the above but ive got this feeling to go shopping! lol! its like i feel myself needing to go & do a big-ish weekly shop when really i dont need anything!

im 24 & left home when i was 18, the other day i went round the shops with my mum (not that close) i was amazed at how much she was spending on total & utter rubish,
things like frozen fish in breadcrumbs, lots frozen chicken in breadcrumbs, frozen burgers, lots of cakes, youghurts, biscuts, frozen somosa type things,
i was very suprised at what she bought!

    hope everyone`s doing well :)

Another £2 spend for us today, on milk.

A bit more on the pantry principle I'd like to follow. I've written a list of everything I need in my cupboards (excluding fridge and cleaning products etc. for now). Next step is to develop a price book for each so that I've got an idea of what a good price for everything is (I've found an app for my iphone for it!). I'm going to use mysupermarket.co.uk as a starting point, then record any transaction where the price per unit weight or volume is better than previous prices. If I have a voucher e.g. £5 off if I spend £50 at Mr T then I'll consider that to be 10% off on everything (and ensure my total spend is £50).

So now when I go shopping I'll mostly just be looking for items to restock the pantry. If they're at the right price, i.e. cheap, I'll buy them in bulk. Then all my meals will be based on my delivered vegetable and meat boxes and what is in the pantry.

That's the theory anyway! We haven't got much storage space at the moment (too much stuff) so I'm going to clear some space in one of the bedrooms as my "pantry".

    There's some explanation at http://hubpages.com/hub/Saving_Money_at_the_Grocery_Store
Must get organised and rejoin grocery challenge!

Well done Longtallsally downgrading from Wee@bix without getting found out ;) and for doing a menu :T

Menu planning is great once you find your own way of doing it and what works best for you. I just love not having to wonder what to do for tea every night :)

I'd downgraded to Te$cos equivolent of Weet@bix successfully, but when I went to £idl today they had a box of 72 for £3.49, which I thought was a fab bargain.....until I went into Te$cos on the way home who have an offer on at the moment of 3 boxes of 24 for £3......kinda took the wind outta my sails, lol.....and worse still, I knew they had cos I saw it on My$upermarket on Friday, but forgot!

Anyhoo - had a NSD yesterday, bringing me to a "grand" total to 3 (rolls eyes)

Got 2 loaves today, along with my non-bargain Weet@bix, a pack of Chicken Breasts, a pack of Mature Cheddar and some Cherry Plum Tomatoes totalling £10.17 and bringing my spends to £158.96

I've also broken my rule and started next weeks cash envelope, although I did this to get the Chicken Breasts on offer mainly, but still a failure on my part, but they'll be £1 a pack dearer tomorrow, so what's a girl to do?

By the way - I called in at Te$co on my way back to see if I could spy me a decent Whoopsie like everyone else on here. This was at 1:30pm and bearing in mind they close at 4pm, there was nothing at all, just a few packs of reduced posh veg and a box of two mini choc desserts - only a matter of pence off the original price too, and no meat at all, not raw or cooked. So I've decided I won't wind myself up by looking in future.

Chin up everyone whose not doing as well as they'd hoped....at least you're trying :)

And :T to those doing well.

My total so far this month is £71.43. I have some yellow stickered beef in the freezer, and the freezer is full.

My biggest success has been staying out of Asda this week I think. I did my weekly shop with a list, and haven't needed to go back. I was popping in at least every other day in August, and buying junk. I have also lost 6lbs in weight in the 2 weeks I've been doing the grocery challenge, as the shopping trips are less frequent, meaning fewer cakes and sweets have been making their way home.

On the subject of fussy cats, ours was very picky until the kitten arrived 3 weeks ago. Now she eats whatever I put down as fast as possible, because the new baby is like a dustbin and will eat her own dinner then anything else she finds:rotfl:

Have just realised that I have put my post on the wrong month - sorry.

Have been very busy and also away for just over a week so have'nt been around for a few weeks.

However am hopefully back in the saddle again from now and would like to put down for £160 for rest of September.

To make things easier I intend to do from the first to last day of each month and allow so much per day once this month is finished, this amount will hopefully decrease as the months go on.

Off to make a meal plan now until Thursday/Friday then back into proper swing of things and plan using things out of the freezer and will need to get some fruit and veg tomorrow.
    MARCH £62.38/250

Well, the good thing about being sick as a dog is that you don't go out and spend.

    I've just realised that I've had 5 - count 'em - 5 no spend days in a row :j

I might even get round to updating my signature when I can be bothered to get my purse and fish out the receipts!

I feel just the same, all my friends and family spend like crazy - and not just on groceries. Thing is though that no-one I know (except OH and this site) even has the slightest interest about saving money, which as it is something I enjoy the challenge of and like to talk about/discuss ideas I feel that a lot of the time I bore them all!:o. Even though I told my parents how they could save £100's on their energy bills they still don't do anything about it. Makes me mad but oh well:mad:.

I love reading all the comments on here. Makes me feel normal!:j

I feel the same way... I have one friend who likes cheap food, but has no passion for cooking... so I bore her!

I have another who has a passion for cooking... and stretching food is a sin!!

I talk and the roll their eyes and get bored!

My mum has financial difficulties, but spends so much money on ready meals... never any veg in sight!!!

I talk and feel like no one listens!

I love this site... everyone is as crazy as I am... the amount of people who get excited about small things like saving 2p... or making rubber chicken... or just getting small pots of Jam for free and using them on special occasions with her hubby!

I am so glad I am no longer alone! I have you guys to get excited over little things :D
