To those who are disheartened at having not come in on target, don't be :)
Ok, so you may not have stayed under your particular budget, but there's no doubt that you will have saved money on what you have previously been spending prior to taking part in the grocery challenge, so you have actually achieved something :T

I'm under at the moment, though not by much. £18.04 left of my £275 budget, but bread and milk are needed before Thursday. Wished I'd bought more of the £1.74 Mature Cheddar from £idl while it was on offer. I try not to pay more that £5 per kilo (preferably less) for my mature cheddar, and none of their other offers are below the £5 per kilo mark.......incidentally, that's always the easiest way to tell whether a pack of cheese is a good offer - look at the price per kilo (not the size of the pack) - as the SM's now sell packs in varying sizes just to confuse us, and to make the cost per pack look better ;)

Another NSD here bringing my total so far to 10.....this is the 3rd month I've taken part in the challenge, and that's the highest amount of NSDs I've achieved so far :j

Won't be declaring September figures until Thurs/Fri

Mrs M - could you put Hippeechiq down for £275 for October please - and thanks once again to you, Pink Winged and Rosieben for running the thread. It's such a great motivator and help to so many people, me included :)

Thanks for all the kind wishes everyone :) I'm surviving at the mo!!! Have a load of meat to cook tomorrow so will keep myself busy rather than worrying! Have chicken, mince, steak and stewing steak so will prob put the steak in the freezer and cook up some batch meals for the freezer too.

Going to have an ice cream :) Kellys Cornish! Yum Yum! May even have some strawberry sauce to make it even nicer!

Don't worry about going over guys! Just think, at least you are looking at your spending rather than not and that is a good step to take :)

:grouphug: to those who need it :)

£5.25 spent in Tesco on Saturday. Managed to get 13 x 2 person portions out of the mince that I bought for £6 last week. Half of it I've batch cooked in the slow cooker with onions, some carrots that were reduced, and some beef stock and then frozen it ready to use for shepherd's pie etc., and the rest I've frozen in 4oz portions.

  • jackie _w have you checked your receipts its easy to add the same one twice i've done it a couple of times another thing you could do is check what you've actually bought against what you've used its a good way of seeing where you are spending one of the other things i've started doing again is split your list into four groups i do fresh, frozen, dry goods ,and tins jars bottles (non food items are on a seperate budget cos i've got so much) as i put things through the till keep the groups together and ask the person on the till to sub total at end of each group it makes it easier when you get home to keep track of what you use if its not ticked of the receipt then you don't need it next time i used to pay for each group seperatly still do if money really tight
it should help you to work out what you really need against what you think you need h t h

instead of making lists why not keep receipts that way
you'll know what you got ,when you got it .how much it cost, and did you use it? i mark each item as i use it and at end of month use receipts to make list for the following month since i've started doing this we don't end up with too much of one thing and not enough of the other although its early days only been doing since july and anything i've bought and not used goes in the winter box its working because even though i'm over my budget again it's getting less each month h t h

  • Had a little splurge in Mr Ts last night. Squash 0.58; Whoopsie bread 0.13; whoopsie chicken 1.70 and whoopsie salad 0.20. So shopping budget now stands at £153.15/£200. Really pleased and cupboards and freezer are still fairly full. I know I've eaten something because feel like i've put on about 6 stone this week (all the birthday cake I made - and ate !!!) x
  • Yesterday and today were no spendy days. Yesterday myself and DD drove to The Uni of Birmingham for an open day as DD starts there next week. This is freshers week so tomorrow she will be doing the drive solo....she is commuting for the first year of uni and it's quite a long drive there and back. Anyway, the point of my mentioning this is that I made us a packed lunch do that when we got there yesterday we didn't have to purchase anything...it was just as well as we didn't see any cafe's open.

Today i had a delivery of food and in it were some vaccum sealed rissotto bases...didn't know what to do with them really but bunged them in a pan with some water and then added some peppers and home grown toms and some flavourings.Didn;t turn out too bad but i do need to research recipes so i can do something with the other 20 packets or so!
