I'm declaring very early this month because it's a 3-week month for me (hence my reduced budget for September was £225).

Even so, I am chuffed because I spent £108.95, which is £116.05 less than I budgeted for.

This is down to the fact that I have cooked a lot of cheap stuff from scratch this month, I have frozen, re-used... I've been truly OS!

Now, if only I could keep this up............:p

Wow! That's fabulous! Well done you :T
Well declaring at £472.34 for the month of September, £22.34 over budget. I haven't been updating my total as I bought, so possibly my spends are actually even higher but I now cannot check as I no longer have a note of my spends at the market. I have this amount scribbled in pencil on a piece of paper near the computer & remember writing it a few days ago but can't actually remember if I bought anything since that so I will have to go with that amount! This is yet another failure, although less so than other months so slightly pleased that it was under £500 but also dissapointed that yet again I didn't meet target. For some reason I seem to think that if I am virtually spent up witha week to go to payday that somehow I will pull it off & unfortunately that never seems to happen.

Actually, that's your best budget since April, and don't forget the cost of food has steadily risen since then. I'd say on that basis it pretty much makes it one of your best months of the year! :T

We could all do with remembering that we're not playing a game that's played on a level playing field here.....he we are trying to stick to budgets when the cost of food is constantly rising, so I think we all do damned well not to throw the towel in

So well done to everyone who's trying - whether you're bringing it home on budget or not :)

I've spent £52.05 since Saturday when I last updated, between A$da/Te$co/£idl and Icel@nd bringing my total so far to £253.26 which means I have £21.74 left up to and including next Thursday.

I'm only planning of buying milk and bread next week unless I've forgotten something.....I may need some $limfast for my daughter, but even so, it's still doable.....of to update sig....

What a miserable day it has been today and last night - got caught in storm walking puppy. Benefit she experienced thunder and lightening! Downside we were both soaked.... Another NSD yesterday though have lost track how many I had in September but I think it was about 12. I finished under budget September £213.57/£250 but not by as much as I hoped as I had forgotten the Tescos trips for some alcohol to take on holiday. Still overall happy with the spends.

Mrs M please can you put me down for £250 for October
October starts today for me as I run payday to payday and thank goodness today was!!! Have set October at £250 would like to try and get it down to £200 but am still doing better than I was when I started this challenge :T So far for October though have spent £59 on Asda delivery tomorrow but includes cleaning stuff and some freezer offers and £6.83 in Tesco today.
I am going to throughly record my NSD's to. I have also put it all in a spread sheet to make it easier like I did last month but not in August!!

I am trying to save also for Christmas which is not easy!! Though determined to spend less this year and make sure no food is wasted but need to put it aside. So if I put aside £50 and only spend £200 that means I could save £100 :rotfl:Hopefully... theoretically....

This thread is so beneficial and the moral support everyone gives is great. Thank you all.

Does anyone know a good receipe for Humous and whether you can freeze it?

Also to those looking to swap down on washing powder - I for years only used Ariel and Comfort as I was allergic to everything else. I tried Ald*'s own concentrated fabric conditioner 99p for 40 washes - Brilliant no ezcema at all. Their non bio tablets and coloured tablets are good too. So are Mr T's daisy non bio or coloured tablets. Alot cheaper no ezcema and my whites are still white and my brights are still bright :rotfl:Which makes me happy.

  • Had a quick trip to A**di and spent £26.50!!! Loads of fruit and veg but also a few naughty things. I bought a box of mince pies - the first of the year. It does feel cold enough to be xmas today!

Also bought two large punnets of Strawberries and a bag of apples for £2 at the local garden centre. Prices were very reasonable - i may have to visit more often.

    Enjoy the weekend :)

We both had to see the doctor today (I have chest infection, probable shingles and on top of everything else OH now has a kidney infection )
    Spigs

Sorry to hear that Spigs :( Like you needed that after the month you've just had. Hope if you have shingles it isn't too painful?

Am guessing you're both on antibiotics? If so, hopefully you'll feel some improvement by morning. Kidney infections are quite painful and can knock the stuffing right out of you......when I had one a couple of years ago, it took me a good month to 6 weeks before I felt like my old self again, so tell OH not to push himself. And don't forget to take care of you too :)

Dear me - not a lot of fun for either of you :grouphug: I wish you both a speedy recovery

  • HI all am declaring £72 for September, very pleased & it was pay day today, so please put me down for £115 for October Already spent £36 in MrA & £35 on Dan AppFood, but stuff in there will last me at least 3 months, so am declaring £11 for it, so all in spent £47, very please as got loads of staples, risotto rice, plain rice & spaghetti, enough to last all month & managed to get a lovely pork sholder which has come from my Xmas budget for only £8, that has been hidden in the freezer so we won't be tempted to scoff it :D

    Good luck all for October!
  • hi even though im not in the challenge this month, mrs m can you put me down £230 for october pls

sorry to hear your not well spigs, hope you feel better soon.

welcome to all the newbies, you've come to the right place to get your shopping down and good luck to all
I will lose 2 stone by this summer!!!!!!
  • Hi all - have not been here for ages, as am trying to cut down leccy use (so not logging on much), also have been very involved with my new busy social life.

But, I've been trying to live out of the cupboard and fridge as much as poss, and still have £33.62 left in my groceries purse, so, less than half my budget has been used up so far!!!!!

Have had some very nice meals too. Made my own version of the Shepherdless Pie last night (used some of my App Foods sosmix instead of the lentils, as had forgotten to soak them - the joke being that I then read the lentils packet to find they didn't need soaking anyway!). In any case it turned out well, really tasty.
Keeping two cats and myself on a small budget, and enjoying life while we're at it!
  • Can you put me down for £290 again for october please its a 5 week month but we are in malta for a week so hoping to scrape by on the same as last month...
    may groc challenge £167/£280...
