Hi All,
Having been on this site for just over a week now, i have been wondering about lots of thing, general regarding money saving and cutting costs and the make it yourself verses buying from the shop debat, does it work out any cheaper??
So in light of this i have a confession to make, i am addicted to houmous, i love the stuff.
Houmous at its cheapest is 88p can this be beat? Probably but i need a recipe can any one supply?
Also and i apologies if i am duplicating any other threads but are there any other recipes people know of that are cost effective, yummy and everyone should know and try, can be for anything
Please post as i would love to give it a go and i'll report back.
:D

Mine isn't so much a recipe but seems to taste OK - a can of chick peas, a dessert spoon of tahini paste, a tablespoon or so of yogurt, a slug of olive oil, and some lemon juice - a bit of salt & pepper. Whizz it all up in a food processor and consume. Vary the amount of lemon juice depending on how sharp or otherwise you like it. Ditto yogurt. Tahini paste can be substituted for sesame seeds, but a jar of paste is well worth buying if you're going to make houmous much as it seems to last ages.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Tin of chick peas (45p)
Squish of lemon juice (? 2p)
Half a clove of garlic or a squish of a lazy one (3p)
Glug sesame oil (saves the combo of tahini and olive oil - I am soooooo lazy) <5p
Whizz in blender - 20 secs - ? cost <1p
Tahhhh dahhhh total cost <51p - for something which equals 2 portions of the stuff you buy in the shop - and you can freeze it
Cheaper if you can do your own chick peas but I am rubbish and always burn them when I cook them from scratch.
Waves to EH - sorry for giving an alternative recipeyours and mine are so similar
