I can't post links yet but I'd go for this HP:

    HP G62-107SA
    Core i3 processor
    2GB RAM
    250 GB Hard disk
    Windows 7 Home Premium

It has a better processor than all of the models you linked to.
It has integrated graphics and shared memory but ok for the types of games you mentioned. Battery life is about the same at 2-2.5 hours for most laptops except thin/light models.

By the way, I wouldn't recommend keeping your photos solely on a laptop. laptops are not as reliable as desktops and their hard disks never seem to last as long. Therefore, you should save them to CD/DVD Disks regularly and/or an external hard disk or even an online storage site.

I was so pleased to see this and the blooming thing can't be bought anywhere is Central Scotland! Can I drag this thread out a little longer & ask for further recommendations?

The only other i3 laptops I can find at under £500 are:

Currys have an advent Sienna 300 - £379.99
    i3 processor
    2GB RAM
    250GB Hard disk
    On board graphics

    There's a write-up on it here:
    http://experts.thelink.co.uk/2010/08/02/cheap-advent-sienna-core-i3-laptop-deals/

    Also the Acer 5741 - £479.99 (£459 at Ebuyer)

    same i3 processor
    3GB RAM
    320GB Hard disk
    On board Graphics

But if you want a laptop with a dedicated graphics card then you'll have to pay slightly more something like a:

    HP G72 130SA - £529 at Ebuyer

    i3 processor
    3GB RAM
    320GB Hard disk
    Lightscribe DVDRW
    Win 7 Home Premium
    17" screen
    ATi radeon HD5430 Graphics card
    Bluetooth

    Hope this helps.

If you are not bothered about paying more for the latest processor, you can take a look at the MSI CR610 for £300 from Argos returns.
You'll have a full warranty. If it doesn't suit you, you can send it back within seven days for a full refund.

You can take a closer look at it here. Change the settings to 720p from 360p to see more detail. You can turn the volume down. :)

The Advent looked fine until I noticed it had no webcam. I am training to be an online counsellor and can see a webcam would be used in the future. The other 2 are starting to get pricey. I am not sure about a refub laptop. My old PC is now 11 years old and has so much invested in it I still find it hard to let it go but I know what was spent and where all the extra bells & whistles came from. I wouldn't know with a refurb.

    Thanks guys

Don't worry about the 'refurb' tag. Will be shiny and new. Maybe the packaging may be a little rough. If there is anything untoward or if you don't like it for any reason, return it for a full refund.

I'm sure that you will get better service than you would from the High Street.

Take a look at the video and see if the design appeals to you. If not, hold on for a bit, something else will come up.

I think someone in the laptop sticky may have just received one, so you can ask them about their experience.
