Still puzzled...why not see and keep them on the Yahoo Gmail Hotmail site....just a shortcut on the desktop, click, there it is. Plenty of security from what I can see, filters galore, can amalgamate them if allowed, move each to its own folder, whatever. Can look up old e-mails sent and received.

Well, for a start, if your broadband is down you can't access your emails. Some people are still on dial up so don't want to to be online just to access emails. Or if your webmail provider is down, etc etc.
And most desktop email software is infinitely better than Hotmail etc.No free lunch, and no free laptop
