Yahoo Mail with Outlook Express 6 ?

Hi

Following on from successfully setting up
MSN with Outlook Express
https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/2685983

Does anyone know whether it is possible to setup Yahoo accounts with Outlook Express?
And if so what the settings might be.

Thanks

You need to have paid account with Yahoo nowadays, "Yahoo! Mail Plus" costs $19.99 (approx £13.00) per year, to get PO3 access via a program such as OL Express, Outlook or, Thunderbird.

Look in Yahoo Mail 'Help' when you are signed into your account, it's all explained there.

    Hi Inner Zone,
    Thanks for your reply

I was hoping there might be a method to do it for free, for a bit of moneysaving :money:

Don't think its worth paying especially since
    GMail do it for free
    and now I know
MSN/Hotmail also do it for free

you can do it for free..

you need to change your location to somewhere like china..

il check where the location actually is and get back to you..

Edit: change it to yahoo asia and you can use it free. :)

    Now thats moneysaving :money:
  • do not wish to get into an argument but i NEVER pay for yahoo and i synch it to Outlook and download via pop3 and upload via SMTP clients.

I use outlook main on XP not express but i have used express and Thuderbird in the past.

Here's how to "POP" mail from Yahoo! Mail Plus into your Outlook Express:
    1. From the Tools menu, choose "Accounts."
    2. Select the "Mail" tab.
    3. Click the "Add" button.
    4. From the Add menu, click "Mail."
    5. In the text box labelled Display Name, type your name and click "Next."
    6. In the Email Address box, type your Yahoo! Mail address (be sure to include "@yahoo.com") and click "Next."
    7. Under "My incoming mail server is a…" select "POP3."
    8. Type "pop.mail.yahoo.co.uk" in the Incoming Mail (POP3, IMAP, or HTTP) Server box.
    9. Type "smtp.mail.yahoo.co.uk" in the Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server box.
    10. Click "Next."
    11. In the Account Name box, type your Yahoo! Mail ID (your email address without the "@yahoo.com").
    12. In the Password box, type your Yahoo! Mail password.
    13. If you want Outlook Express to remember your password, check the "Remember password" box.
    14. Do not check the boxes labelled "Log on using Secure…"
    15. Click "Next."
    16. Click "Finish."
    17. Select 'plus.pop.mail.yahoo.com' under 'Account,' and click 'Properties.'
    18. Click the “Servers” tab.
    19. Under “Outgoing Mail Server” check the box next to “My server requires authentication”
    20. Click the 'Advanced' tab.
    21. Under “Outgoing mail Server (SMTP)”, check the box next to “This server requires a secure connection (SSL). Enter port number “465” in the “Outgoing mail (SMTP)” field.
    22. Under “Incoming mail (POP3)”, check the box next to “This server requires a secure connection (SSL)". The port number in the “Incoming mail (POP3)" field should automatically change from 110 to 995. If it doesn’t, make sure the port number is set to 995.
Marry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!

    Hi Savvy Spender South

You're right I just spent a while researching into this and checking it out.

An older Yahoo account I have opened around 2005 does indeed allow POP access without any changes (like changing to Yahoo Asia etc) - With this all that is required is selecting the option within Mail Options to turn on POP access.

With a newer Yahoo account I have opened 2009 the option to Turn on POP access is not visible also trying the 'Yahoo Asia' method does not cause it to become visible.

Based on my research the Yahoo Asia method does work for accounts perhaps opened during a certain period where
    POP access
option is not showing and then changing to Yahoo Asia will cause it show.

Either change your location to Yahoo!Asia like someone else suggested or use Zimbra Desktop instead of OE.

Why would you use Outlook Express when Yahoo Hotmail etc are web based anyway. Puzzled.

Settings should be found in the yahoo e mail help section; top right when I used it last.

Thunderbird could be worth a try. I set up a new Thunderbird client (thought I'd change from Outlook) yesterday and it 'found' all the settings automatically and works a treat. My yahoo.co.uk account is from 2003;not sure if this makes a difference given some of the above comments.
