Ripped off by Carphonewarehouse ??? Using Iphone on CPW O2
Hello, just wondering if someone has experienced the same thing. I used to have a Nokia phone on O2 by Carphonewarehouse. Then I bought an Iphone 3G from a friend and used that sim card in the iphone without any problems.
Last month my contract was due renewal and I changed it to a better deal (I thought), £20 a month for 800 min, 1600 text. I kept using that sim card in my iphone and today I suddenly heard it's not compatible. Only O2 sim cards can be used in the iphone, not O2 by carphonewarehouse. Worst thing is that they've charged me £180 for using data with the iphone and they told me it would be £180 for EVERY month I use the iphone.
Anyway heard of this before ? I didn't see it in the terms and conditions ?
So I can either pay off the contract, 11 months left at £20 a month or use another phone. I'll use another phone of course. Just want to know if that £180 charge is legal ??
thanks...

Are you sure that the new contract you signed has data included?0 -
Sounds like you have agreed to a contract without a data allowance.0

Being charged for using the internet has nothing to do with legality. You need to check the data charges section of your contract.0

You were ALL right, when my deal was up for renewal I saw on O2's website that they have a Simplicity deal for Iphone £20 a month, for 600 min and unlimited text and data. But the sales guy must've known it when I placed the order and signed me up on a Carphonewarehouse deal which doesn't include data.
Do you think I can ask them to trace back the transaction as they usually record the phone conversations ? Also, since it's 1 month ago now, since I changed, can't cancel it anymore.
The confusing bit was the carphonewarehouse customer service person just kept on repeating that their deals don't work on iphone and that it was an iphone penalty which didn't make sense.
So I hung up and called again and spoke to someone more helpful the 2nd time. It was about 35MB of data at £5/MB !!! Don't think I can get that back but at least I know it's a data charge, not an iphone charge. Will ask them to change the tariff to include 500MB that should do it, but what an expensive lesson.
Worst thing is, I DIDN'T do anything to the iphone, a friend was being helpful and updating the apps for me !! Thanks !! :rotfl:0 -
Do o2 CPW have bolt-ons or anything for data bundles?0

Yes, they told me it's £7.50 a month, which is of course much less than £180 ! but on their website there is a tariff which is £5 dearer and that's got 500MB inclusive.
Any chance CPW will do a goodwill gesture and refund part of the £180 you think ?0
