Value for money paint

Hi, we've had some work done in the house and are now just about to paint half of our extension (it's not a huge room). We're thinking of painting it neutral/magnolia.
Have heard about cheap paint being false economy because you end up putting more coats on than more expensive paint.
Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations on the best value for money paint to go for?
Thanks in advance for any help

Homebase mix in store emulsion, not the cheapest but for pastel neutrals like you are suggesting, plenty good enough at a good price. Use the HB 15% voucher on the home page here plus Nectar points this Bank Holiday weekendMarry a Foreigner, its so much cheaper!0

Dulux Trade Vinyl. Matt, Soft Sheen, Silk whichever finish you need. Best VFM there is.

We always use Macphersons which is the trade arm of Crown. Available from decorators merchants. Good value and covers well.Eat vegetables and fear no creditors, rather than eat duck and hide.0

My dad likes Focus own brand - we used it in my flat (Placid which is a delicious creamy white) and he was quite impressed. Then he used crown duckegg blue, and cursed a bit, so I guess that one didn't go down wellEmergency savings: 4600

From a decorator of 40 odd years, Johnsones paint is far superior to Dulux.
Im the OH so not too sure of the spelling. Dulux white fades/yellows faster than any other paint.
It is false economy to buy cheap paint, make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
B&Q Trade Magnolia matt in a 10L tin, about £23ish last time I used it.
It is thick and creamy.
P.S
We used Dulux Trade vinyl matt as well for one of the bedrooms but this was double the price and frankly almost the same consistency.Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!

I have noticed emulsion paint seems to have got far worse in recent years.
Its taking me several coats to cover the walls evenly even with Dulux Matt white.
It seems to take far longer to dry than it used to, and once dry dissolves if you wipe it with a wet cloth turning the cloth white.
It also gives off less smell when drying which makes me think they have taken out more of the oils and solvents, most likely for enviromental nonsense reasons!
I notice the "trade" paint is far more expensive. Can anyone tell me the difference in this paint?
I'm wondering if i should stop messing about and just get the Trade paint as i've got a whole 4 bed house to do!0 -

Many treads about this point here in MSE, search and you shall find.
In short:
Trade paint= thicker more pigments and can be diluted to your choice of consistency
Non trade : mixed to a medium consistency, less pigments and can be applied straight out of the tin.
And then there is the value rubbish where more water than paint is being sold , water is cheap after all.Five exclamation marks the sure sign of an insane mind!!!!!
