  • Stumbled upon this thread and I think it is a brilliant idea, - I am planning to show it to my wife !! However I have a few questions I need to ask and I cannot see any "sticky" or "FAQ".

Whilst it is important to be flexible with the rules, it seems that there is a slight blurring of the lines between saving and working. For example if you do a mystery shopper or even something on ebay that takes an hour to do and you "save" £5, is this really a saving if you have worked for under the minimum wage? I suppose if you nick this time from your employer then it is free to you, but that is not really the point.

I have done this sort of thing for years - for example I will wait until after 9:30 to go onto the tube to get off peak rates, but only if this wait is under 10 mins, otherwise the 60p odd that I save means I am effectively working for £3.60 an hour!!

I guess the point I am making is that your time is valuable, and is there any point in spending X hours to save what on the face of it is less valuable to you than the hours themselves.

Hi fathippy and welcome to the thread.

I never think of any of the money making or saving I do in terms of hours. If I am going shopping as normal and use vouchers or money off coupons on my shop, I have saved money I would have spent on the items anyway, this money can now be diverted to pay bills.

As for Mystery Shopping, for some of us that is a full time job, others a part time, others fit in with their daily lives as they go around doing what they do.

I also have a part time job, am an Avon lady and do mystery shopping, daily clicks, scratchies, sell on ebay, do surveys, etc. I am not bothered about the time it all takes, as I work my life around it all. I still spend quality time with DH and DS, see my friends, etc. All this extra money making is actually helping me. It is teaching me to be more frugal, more aware of what is out there to help me, and for the first time in months, I am nearly completely upto date with my bills :T:T and that's thanks to this thread!

I am hoping to be able to start saving some money soon, which for me will be an added bonus.
  • I had my signature removed, what a naughty boy I am! So not sure how much progress I'd made, think it was around £75 so far. Anyway, received £46 today from mystery shopping so am now calling it £121.
