Can't get Nokia debranded?

I think this is going to be one of those questions with no replies but i'll give it a shot.

I have a Nokia 2730 O2 branded, I attempted to debrand using the following procedure but its not working.

I got the product code for generic UK from Navifirm

Opened NSS, hit scan, phone info, scan, in product code I enter the new code, enable then write, product code changed.

Then I open Nokia Update, it searches finds there is no update available but I select reinstall, It goes away download and does its thing, the phone then restarts and I get

"WELCOME TO O2"

I then open NSS and hit read, and the product code has infact been changed but Nokia Update doesn't see this.

I tried a product code from Telstra and generic US code, all same result the phone is not getting debranded.

Anyone any ideas?

I've just had the same problem with a returned from Nokia N85. Nokia have upgraded the firmware before returning it.

The firmware on the handset ends in something like .37 which is the latest version, it won't updated to a newer unbranded version as there is no unbranded version with a higher firmware revision. I'd think you have the same problem. The only option is to wait for a newer release from Nokia. . .
  • Alternate would be spend £5 and get your local Mobile dealer to unbrand it, most market traders are quite skilled at this, i noted yesterday as one was unlocking the I Phone 4, time waits for no one.....

The branding is carried within the firmware . If the reinstall was an update it may have only updated some components .
You would need to flash new unbranded firmware to your phone .
That invalidates your warranty and may brick your phone .

Im surprised, you should be able to upgrade firmware to the latest version, or at the very least "side"grade to the same version but of a different brand. Meaning unbranding should always be possible.

Its getting back to a brand that can be hard, if you have upgraded but the branded version of the newer software is never released, meaning you can't go back.

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
