Amazon Kindle fiasco - anyone else caught up in it?

Anyone else caught up in the Amazon Kindle 3 fiasco that's been running for a few days now?

False promises, failure to keep people informed of delays, misinformation, disinformation, conflicting information..............

You know - the sort of thing you'd expect from a seriously rubbish company, but not Amazon. I'm changing my mind about Amazon after this mess, though.

Putting them into the 'not to be trusted' category.

When did you order?
My OH pre-ordered one for my birthday on 15th August for delivery 'on or before' September 10th. We've not heard any update yet.

I ordered 9th August and I think mine is due around the 10th as well. I did get my case today though and it looks lovely

I ordered mine on 30th July and have just had confirmation it has been despatched.

(Update - delivered on 31st August -about 10 minutes ago )

I ordered mine on 16th August, with expected despatch date of on or before 10th September. Not heard anything yet. They did get ahead of the timescale, but things appear to be at a standstill at the moment, unfortunately. My dad received his 4 days earlier than his anticipated despatch date, lucky thing!

Doesn't this happen with every new electrical item that comes out, IPhone, PS3, Wii, XBox all spring to mind that have had the same problems with loads of people ordering them and then delays happening.

Yes, this does tend to usually happen to "must-have" gadgets. I'm sure that it is often a marketing ploy in order to build up a frenzy and increase demand.

Mine is apparently due to dispatch today, after I ordered on the 11th August.

We shall see.

It wasn't so much the delay I was moaning about, but the way Amazon handled the delays.

I now have the Kindle, which is fine, apart from the well-documented habit they have of crashing and rebooting every so often for no apparent reason. Amazon seem to be denying that there's a problem - so far.

Apart from that one problem is it any good?

Has anyone subscribed to a newspaper on it and again is it any good and which paper?

I'm hoping to get one for my birthday but might wait until Christmas to let them sort out any bugs etc.
