Not a hypocrite - just a realist !
"CID officers visited the scene of 36 per cent of all burglaries and collected useful information from witnesses in 16 per cent (or 6 per cent of all burglaries).
On average, one or two detectives visited the burglary sites two weeks after the incident, and spent 22 minutes there................ This does not appear to be cost-effective."

Before or after they are 40 mins late in arriving.
Police are useless scum.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. If you’re not sure why please read the forum rules or email the forum team if you’re still unsure - MSE ForumTeam0 -
When our car was stolen it was found by the police within 20 minutes of it leaving our drive. Not bad for useless scum.
When a family member had a fire in their home the police came and rescued him with the officers receiving (none serious) burns in the process. Not bad for useless scum
"Party: BNP" - I don't think you're a very good judge of who is or isn't scum.
Now about the OP, sorry but your partner only had temporary cover so we are talking about a really short period of time, is it reasonable to completely forget that your temporary cover has run out? I don't think it is. You could get away with forgetting that a yearly insurance had ran out as it is a long period of time but a temporary cover of a few weeks (if that) is a bit harder to believe.
Like other people i'm struggling to understand why his mother would need his V5 for anything at all. If it is his vehicle then what possibly need could she have had for it? I can't think of one situation where somebody who doesn't own a vehicle would need the V5.
Unfortunately it might be a series of mistakes by someone with a very poor memory but that is no fault of anyone but your partner and the loss of his vehicle was down to his mistakes and nobody elses. I suggest that in future he gets a bit more organised.
Uninsured drivers really annoy me. I pay extra on my insurance to cover the fact that people like your partner 'forget' to insure their vehicles and it isn't fair on me or any of the other insured drivers out there. Serves him right in my opinion for 'forgetting' to insure his car and then letting his mummy lose his documents. Presumably after she 'needed' them for some unknown reason he didn't think to ask for them back? His own fault yet again.
No sympathy for uninsured drivers at all, he has been extremely selfish and unfortunately for him it has come back and bit him on the a***0 -
I'm afraid that based on the info we have from the OP, it sounds more like a deliberate attempt at Insurance dodging.
Ring up and arrange the cover note, then simply cancel all future payments and try to plead ignorance.
Sorry OP, from what you have said the car being crushed is the best outcome for the rest of us.
If they didn't crush it, it would be back on the road today being driven with no Insurance after retrieval from the compound.0 -

Police are useless scum.
When some druggie scrum tried to burgle me he made a mistake of doing it on early Sunday morning when the police van had finished with the drunks in the nearest town centre.
The police turned up within 10 minutes and caught him working out how to escape in the garden.
Oddly only the female and the male officers in their 50s could be bothered to go after him. Their younger male colleague wasn't so keen in getting involved and was more interested in questioning me when I wasn't going anywhere.
So yes some police are useless scrum others aren't.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

I too find it hard to believe that he 'forgot',with the ammount of advertising saying that your car will be crushed about,
unless he has 'oldtimers' disease then I find it hard to think you could forget 'tempcover',
as has been said when insurance is due you get reminders, when tax is due you get reminders,
sorry OP no sympathy here,
P.S. how comes they dont send a reminder for the MOT?IMOJACAR

You don't get a postal remainder for the MOT but you do for your tax disc and insurance.
This only causes you a problem if like me your MOT, insurance renewal and tax disc date are all at different times of the year.
The tax disc reminder comes through a month before it runs out.
The insurance reminders have a tendency of coming though late i.e. 14-7 days before you renew to give you less time to shop around. However some companies still manage to send 2 and phone you up during that time.I'm not cynical I'm realistic

Maybe this is how they get away with it in Bradford, they get a policy out, buy the tax, then cancel the policy.0
