The trouble is particularly for PC gaming, there are millions of possible set ups, so it is impossible to release a game, without it working properly or at all on at least 1 persons machine.

Patches can be a good thing also, as they can add extra features to a game.

When it comes to consoles though, I can't see why so many patches to fix software need to be released. In the console versions case surely it has to be lack of testing or delibrately releasing unfinished software although when Microsoft/Sony/Nintendo update their firmware etc, games can become unplayable I guess.

As for the rest of your post, I think you sum it up very well, imagine the chaos if everyone who didn't like a game, could just take it back cause they didn't like/enjoy it.

I don't mind downloads/patches for PC games because PCs are open. Someone can upload a patch for someone else to download, I can save all the patches I need and use later.

Someone can start up their own dedicated server for online. That's all fine, because it's open to the user.

Because consoles are closed, it becomes a problem for me. I can't download and keep a patch for fallout 3, or create a dedicated server for Little big planet. I've got to HOPE they're still available later on, which they won't be.

The games i have are pc version, not xbox ps2-3 ect, the games though i belive are ports, ( originally intended for consoles ) the ubisoft server will randomly go offline throught out the day several times during any 24hr period, without any notice from ubisoft, the first vegas game had some of the same bugs faults as this later version vegas 2, the ubisoft master server system has needed fixing for several years, had i known that this game would be basically the same as the first i would never of bought it,
The only reason ubisoft insist that all their games use their server to connect is so they can make money from other companies from in game adverts, their is no need to use this outdated method of connecting players, activision have the right idea with cod 4 modern warfare and cod5 waw, where the server system is only to display available games, players then connect to a hosted server directly, plus once the ip and details of your favourate servers are saved you no longer need the server browser to join those servers, and no poxy ads
