Emirates Free Flight extras for Honeymooners possible?

Is it a myth or is it possible for honeymooners to get a free extra of some sort? When my wife and I went on our honeymoon we didn't get anything but we didn't mention it either so fair do's.

My wife's sister will no doubt be the same and not mention it but could i email the airline with their flight number and names and ask them to be considered for anything extra as a good will gesture?

Well, they won't get an upgrade if that's what they were thinking.

I know Singapore Airlines will organise a free honeymoon (and even birthday cake) if requested (note: Cathay Pacific charge!), and it has been know for stewardesses to smuggle a glass of bubbles from Business to go with it.

So you may wish to enquire with Emirates if they will provide a honeymoon cake for honeymooners - it's let mendacious, and a lot less awkward to ask. Do this at least a week before.

They may be one of the airlines that don't do it. I don't know.
  • Emirates don't upgrade willingly. Earlier this year, before flying to Dubai, I chatted to an employee of BMI at Glasgow Airport, who changes into the Emirates outfit and handles their check-in and boarding for the daily flight to DXB. She explained that no-one, no matter how important, wealthy or friendly, can talk themselves into an upgrade. Emirates is a clever airline, and unlike many older competitors, has a tight rein on employees who might be tempted to treat passengers to things they haven't paid for. If you want a better cabin, you have to pay for it in miles or cash. In comparison I've twice been upgraded on trans-Atlantic flights with United, once because I flirted shamelessly with a female check-in agent, and once because the partner of a friend of a friend (!) met me at a party and was able to ask a colleague to push me into Business! Emirates know a enough about revenue management to not let their employees give things away!

You could mention it upon boarding to the chief purser. They might be persuaded to send some champagne your way. However it might seem a bit crass to get on board and mention you're newlywed. Maybe get on board with a just married banner pinned to your back and a trail of tin cans. They might get the message without you looking greedy :D

I'd definately email and ask - especially as you are not asking for yourself. Something along the lines of - 'my sister is getting married and we wondering if you have anything special available for them during their honeymoon flight'. It sounds a bit more ambiguous and light!

I like that approach, cheers for all the replies though. Neither of them will say anything so this is all i can try and do.

Many airlines will organise some bubbly and chocolates for the happy couple if you tell them in advance and pay for it. Might be worth considering for them as a surprise. Freebie upgrades for nonstatus customers rarely (if ever) occur - when overselling forces it then the status passengers go first followed by the full fare passengers.

Otherwise most people would be 'on honeymoon' on everyflight they take, accompanied by an edited marriage certificate.
