Hi i have a freesat tv using 1 lnb but i have the chance of a sky hd box that is no longer used. I was considering hooking it up to my other lnb to gain more HD channels. My question is can i view channel 4+5 hd without paying sky any monthly subs? or indeed any other channels i do have a card for the sky hd box that is active for free to air on HD box. Is this a good idea ?

If it is free and working why not? Channel 4HD and Five HD are Free To View as long as the viewing card remains active, after which a replacement card will be required (present ones are a one off purchase at £25) and the last version of cards lasted 5 years. Note however you will not be able to use the recording features without a subscription.0
