converting Sky Plus to Freesat

Hi all,
wondered if anyone can advise.
we have a really poor aerial which makes our freeview viewing cut out every time a plane flys over the house - which is quite frequent in the evenings.
there is an existing satellite dish where the previous tenants had Sky Plus and all the cables are still in tact.
I wondered if I would be able to buy a cheap freesat box and use the existing cables to plug in or would I need to buy something to convert the two Sky Plus cables to make them into one - if that makes any sense.
Thanks
Devi

Nope a cheap box would do it, both cables are effectively completely separate (allowing you to watch one side whilst recording another). You can do the same on Freesat but obviously the box will be more expensive.
...... have just done the same myself.
Only thing to add is that the cabling 'may' degrade over time due to weathering which might impact signal0 -
Thank you!S.A.D and proud

You only need a single feed for a Freesat tuner. If you want to connect a Freesat PVR box then you need two feeds-one for each channel, as dazza explained.
So it's just a straight plug in.
Alternatively, you can use a second hand Sky box to get their non-subscription channels. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Argos sell the Freesat box for around £30 and plug in - hopefully that should do the trick.
Been bidding unsuccessfully on ebay for one so going to give up!

If it's this one then I wouldn't bother:

That model is SD only (so you won't get the HD channels), and it is SCART connection only (No HDMI output). Obsolete stock really. No free lunch, and no free laptop
