Sounds fine. Adult children use more than regular children as they eat more and stay up later.;)Barclaycard 3800

Hi
I always paid my parents 10% of my earnings.
My DH paid his parents for food and board (not sure how much) and his brother paid his Mum extra to wash and iron his clothes too.
Both of us only realised how well off we were when we got our own house and had to pay all the bills!Currently studying for a Diploma - wish me luck

I'll be moving back to the parentals in 3 weeks until we find a new place.
They have said they are not going to charge us rent as such, they just want some money to cover the extra food as well the utilities.
We offered £400 but they said no that's too much (god I love parents) They said £200 will cover it.
Not sure I'm going to want to move back out again!
Thanks for this my daughter has said the same she wants to stay until we "kick her out" (as if l would!) Just want to cover our expenses so they can save a bit. Enjoy being back at home

Thanks to everyone for the comments. They have been most welcome. As well as my returning home daughter another daughter has finished College was going to continue with her education but has decided to take a gap year so l can use some of the information given here to help decide on what she should contribute. (she has a part time job) Her boyfriend is over on average 5 out of 7 nights and eats, sleeps gets his washing done so l think it is about time she started to pay her way a little.
Now l feel far more knowledgeable and inspired!!
Many thanks0 -
but isnt the grant/loan for students dependent on whether they are living at home or not? isnt it dependent on their parents income until they are 25, or is it different if the student has dependents of their own?0

Op when you say they are coming back home, where have they been living ?
I presume they've had a house or flat of their own, they had to pay for that so they should certainly pay you a similar figure.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

I always paid rent at home, right from my first part time job to when I moved out 5 years ago, though mum was a softy and I used to pay £120 a month, plus I would do a lot of the food shopping on way home from work.
Why did I move out again? ;-)
We almost moved in with my fiancees mum to save money and think she was going to charge £500 a month for both of us, which seems fair as included all bills and food etc, compared to the £1200 or so we spend on averageI love food, hate waste and have a penchant for sparkly things ::D
