Firefox Issue

Options
Got a problem with Firefox;
If I open up the browser then close it down and try and open it again a bit later, I get the messag" Firefox is already running, close down or reboot" There doesn't appear to be a window open or anything I can close down and I need to reboot to get back into Firefox.
Can anyone help?
Thanks

    Use the Windows Task Manager to close the existing Firefox process:

    That doesn't work
    you have AVG or Zonealarm?

    I had to remove both those programs and installed Avast and Comodo. Now I have no problems

  • It happens to me all the time, I put it down to a quirk in firefox. Once you exit the browser the actual program takes a little longer to shut down.

    ^You can shut it down using taskmanager, you will need to terminate the process firefox.exe rather than the application.

    what OS and what virus scanner and firewall you using. I had the same problem with XP and task manager would shut the browers down. In vista that wouldnt happen

    Should have added I have XP, AVG and Sygate. As you've noted possible issues with XP/AVG?

    It would be better to switch to Avast, AVG is a poor program now and so worth uninstalling and trying Avast.

    I always wondered if AVG caused the problem and Zonealarm messed up because of it and locked the browser into the task manager so you couldnt end task or process. It used to take 20 mins to shutdown on its own, when it happened.

    That means that Firefox doesn't shut down properly and still runs in the background. It's most likely caused by an faulty extension or a corrupt profile.

    Try running Firefox in safe mode and see whether it still happens. If yes, then try a new Firefox profile. If no, start Firefox normally and disable your extensions one by one and keep working with Firefox for some time.

    when it goes wrong open up IE and any other Browser and try to access the internet, you should find that they don't work too. Once AVG and Zonealarm was removed it worked fine.
