On a personal level, has the recession effected you?

For my wife and I, it has made no difference what so ever.
The only downside that we have had is not being able to sell our place, but that was mitigated by renting it out with a view to keeping it for the medium term.

Work wise, and while I contract I have managed to get increases to my day rate on a yearly basis.

Has it effected you at all?

Lost my job, moved continents, took me 6 months to find work and a further year to earn a living.

No real impact apart from that.

The labour market is much weaker than it was. A few years ago in my area(accountancy) there were too few people chasing to many jobs, now that situation has reversed.
Also as people have been made redundant there is more work for those that remain to do.
Finally there is something of a climate of uncertainty, which means we are probably saving more and spending less.

Pay cut (50% at one point!) on the back of reduced work load and margins in the construction industry.

Was an investment banker/hedge fund bloke. Now work looking after people's pensions after a stint teaching economics in uni.

That was how I got the job teaching. If I can destroy the world's economy single handedly then I can probably teach about it.

For clarity I did it because, in common with all Tories, I hate poor people.
