Same here.
We now have an 18 month old son and another on the way.
Meanwhile I've had a promotion and a 25% pay increase.
Life has dramatically improved on a personal level both financially and emotionally since the recession

Mortgage dropped to £73.00/month from £590.00/month
Spending on heating oil and petrol went up by £30.00/month
Value of my house dropped to 190K from £270K. (I bought it for £180K)
Other than that evrything stays the same0 -
As I graduated from university, the recession began.
Kept my part time job which became full time, but finding it hard to find a new one in the field I actually want go into to put my degree to use, and the longer it takes, the harder it will be I think. (Computer programming).
The biggest hurdle you will have is getting your foot in the door and getting some work experience.
Have you tried contacting employers directly showing your willing to start at the bottom even on similar income to your part / full time job.
It may be hard, but it may also reap the rewards to get in the door and build your experience.
then you'll find oppertunities easir as the years roll on.:wall:

I'm in the construction industry as well, what sector are you in? I am in the Civil / Rail sector
Hi we are civils & surfacing. We are finding that whilst there is some work out there, there are so many firms competing for it that there is always at least one or two people that will go in with an extremely low price and hence it is difficult to get profitable work.
We are getting some council maintenance work, but I would imagine that it will not be too long before that dries up as well.Today is the first day of the rest of your life0 -

But unless you like Jay & Silent Bob you probably wouldnt get it...
Still off topic, but I still love the pub quiz team name "ICan'tStopLookingAtTheBarmaidsTits".
First time I used it still makes me snigger as the quiz host was grey haired and in his 50's while the barmaid was a voluptious young woman showing plenty of cleavage.
P.S. Even the barmaid was laughing at it so don't think it offended.:wall:

Your joking are you.
If your surfacing relates to road surfacing, you should look at other areas.
I read once that in my VI area it would take a year to sort all the pot holes caused during last years winter.

I've seen a huge improvemetn but not all are fixed and winter is not far away again:wall:

you need to drive around spilling Kero all over the road0 -
The downside - had to take an across the board 8% paycut 18 months ago.
The upside - mortgage reduced by £450 a month, half of the paycut now restored as our business recovers and the other half promised for early next year providing our sales continue on current trend. :beer:0 -
- no increase in rent
- 0.5% payrise or something negligable like that
- went on the most expensive holiday I've ever been on
- argued more with stupid people
- felt smug about having no debts
Only negative is the risible rates on my savings. Oh, and I miss the pick n mix in Woolworths. They are an EYESORES!!!!0
