Best 23-25" Monitor

Options
Morning all,

The other half is a web designer/developer and needs another monitor - apparently it increases productivity by 30% (though I suspect that's one of his made up facts to justify the purchase!).

He's asked me to do some research into the best models/deals out there - is there anything I should be looking at specifically, or any bargains you can recommend?

Thanks! :T

depends on how much you have to spend, although i agree the increase in productivity % is a pinch (or bucket) of salt statistic in my mind
    Drop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
    10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
    20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)
  • We just bought a few Samsung Syncmaster 2443BW 24 inch monitors from Pixmania. Picture is sharp and it has the highest resolution for that size @ 1920 x 1200! Not bad for just over £200! Not sure it will increase productivity too much but if you have that money to spend then its worth a punt! :)

Well, from a software development point of view I would argue that having two monitors does increase productivity although I would be hard pressed to come up with a percentage!! For instance, it means you can have API references on one window while coding in another.

Regarding your question - does the monitor *have* to be that big? i.e. I would argue the increase in productivity would be gained by just having another monitor e.g. a cheap 19/20.

    Cheers

I'm not quite au fait with it all, but he said he wants to have code on one monitor, and the web site on another. He's a bit picky with his gadgets, so presume he'd rather have a big(ish) screen.

I recently bought a Samsung B2430H from Amazon. Have 2 of these at work, and really impressed with quality/value (£159.99) so bought one for home.

    Thanks for all the advice.

Had a chat with him and we've gone for the LG W2361V @ £150.40 from Amazon - seems to be a good deal with very favourable reviews.

Here's to the 30% increase in productivity  *ahem*!

Might increase productivity if your OH is a cameleon.
    Survey earnings total 2009 £417, 2010 £875, 2011 £574
  • Watch for plug compatible problems, VGA, HDMI, DVI which do you want. From my view point, a two monitors user, try to get identical units. Then you need a Spyder monitor calibrator to colour match the output, they will be very different. Cheap is not good for monitors.
