Sky TV how shortsighted can you get

Well, I pay my taxes like all other workers.
However, tax is tax, and I pay it.
If those receiving benefits chose to spend it on sky over and above some other necessity then it's their decision.
I see it both ways - I don't particularly like paying tax for someone else's luxury, but it's their decision as to where they spend the money.Happy chappy0 -
I'd just like to add something here as my final post in this thread.
As a child i contracted meningococcal meningitis with acute septicima now if some of you would like to do some digging you may get some idea of the problems i face on a day to day basis, I have been able to hold down work from the age of 16 to 30 but for the last 10 years I have been unable to work.
Not everyone who is on benefits are scumbags, some of us try our best, as i said before i don't drink, i don't smoke and some of you see fit to try to put me down because i spend 70 pence a day on Sky TV (ok i don't anymore).
I hope all the people that see fit to jump on my case don't end up with what i had because any of you can get it, but think twice folks any of us could have a stroke at anytime and you may loose you job and you may end up on benefits just like myself, would that give me the right to have a pop at you.

I am on benefits at the moment.I cancelled Sky and they allowed me to keep 2 packages for £7.50 a month - to be reviewed in 6 months.I don`t drink or smoke and don`t mind spending 25p a day for this.
Sorry about wasting all your tax-payers money.0 -
Why do people keep saying stuff like:
"I don't drink or smoke"?
What's that got to do with watching Sky? I don't understand
And what's the big deal? The majority of us don't drink alcohol regularly or smoke!"One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -
Beacuse of how many threads seem to assume that all people on any form of benefit sit around smoking, drinking and having loads of kids. Those of us that don`t feel the need to to point out that we don`t.
I made the mistake of packing in a job I hated and joined the NHS to do a more worthwhile job and then got laid off as the hospital is skint.Until I find a new post,I will claim benefits.I`ve paid in for over 30 years and how I chose to spend this benefit is surely of no concern of anyone but me.The government don`t give me an extra amount to pay for Sky.I chose to find the £7.50 a month by doing without something else.In my case,I don`t buy a daily paper any more.0 -

That sucks. Good luck with your job hunting.
I think that most of the comments about Sky were because the OP was saying that they didn't have £30 to pay for an engineer because money was so tight, but was then happy to pay Sky £20 per month to watch tv. If you can afford £7.50 per month as it's how you choose to spend your cash, then it's yours to spend how you want.
I'd personally never spend money on Sky again, but that's because I'm a tightwad! (thanks to this place)

Pah, why can't anyone just ask a blooming question and get an answer without meandering off into previously chartered waters?I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -

Never, never, never explain, you simply don't need to share your personal business, unless you want to.
Though, I'm afraid we're in a similar situation, and feel the need to explain, for fear of assumptions.I ave a dodgy H, so sometimes I will sound dead common, on occasion dead stupid and rarely, pig ignorant. Sometimes I may be these things, but I will always blame it on my dodgy H.
