Quick question about s75 abroad

Wow... another perfectly innocent thread goes pear shaped!0

sorry that was my suggestion, thought it would just take a phone call
Thanks for your suggestion. It wasn't a bad one.
Just in this case it's quite a long airport transfer and some companies are quoting £400 or £500, so in this case it better to book a resonable price in advance.
Thanks for the suggestion though :-)0 -
Thanks for the suggestion but this one only takes credit cards if they are pre-paid.lisyloo: a lot of taxis on the continent take credit cards anyway - so you can pay after the event !
There's probably a valid reason for that (like taxis not being equipped with the hand held devices) rather than a scam, so they have to process it beforehand.
I was a bit worried about any problems getting cash at the airport, but to be honest we've never had any, and although sometimes there's a queue, there is often more than on ATM.0 -

Whereabouts are you going in Italy..? We are due to goto Rome sometime early next year and i for one can't wait..0 -
Whereabouts are you going in Italy..?
Lake Maggiore.
We have been to Garda 3 times (and rome, florence, venice, verona, pisa, tuscany, umbria)
The lakes are lovely.
Rome will be fantastic.
Hope you have a great time, there is so much to see you can't possibly do it all.0 -
Thanks for all you help folks.
Let me rephrase.
If it turns out to be a fake website, can I claim my money back from VISA?
No, you would pursue it through the issuing bank rather than the card scheme.
If it's a scam website I'd get prepared for a long fight with them though and I wouldn't fancy your chances. Will there be any debate about it being 2 X singles and therefore under the £100 limit (we've booked a return transfer).
If it's covered under s.75 at all then it needs to be ONE TRANSACTION. If they put two separate transactions through and they are both under £100 then no, but if they put both trips on the one bill and that single transaction is over £100 then yes.As far as I can see it's legit, but if there are worries I can get Euros.
I don't particularly want to carry cash and it will ruin my lunchtime, but it's possible.
Personally I would pay cash, as that gives an opportunity to haggle at the time

Yes sorry, that's what I meant to say.
In this case Nationwide as it's still 0% in Euros. If it's a scam website I'd get prepared for a long fight with them though and I wouldn't fancy your chances.
We aren't going to use a card, but just for my interest why are you saying that?
I thought that there was fraud protection when using credit cards, so provided I've not been negligent then it should be covered shouldn't it?If it's covered under s.75 at all then it needs to be ONE TRANSACTION. Yes it is being purchased a one return transfer.
I'm just being ultra cautious as it's two journeys, but they couldn't say a pair of shoes were two seperate items, so I think I'm being a bit over cautious there.Personally I would pay cash, as that gives an opportunity to haggle at the time
This is a fixed price quotation, and comparatively reasonable.
I don't think haggling is widespread in Italy and might cause offence.
Will probably leave a tip.
Tipping is widespread so I think you have to respect local customs.0 -

That depends how you define negligence.
If you check out the website and do a big of background searching online on the company then you would probably be fine, but if you just chose the first link that Google threw up then they might argue that you were negligent.
Like I say, you might be in for a fight depending on the circumstances.Tipping is widespread so I think you have to respect local customs.
Do you?
I don't tip on principle, no matter if it's the UK, Europe or the US - I just don't do it

Ok, cheers.0 -
Just wanted to report back that we had a very successful transfer.
Both times we had a nice comfortable Mercedes.
Considerate drivers. We noticed they made the effort to pick up our cases across kerbs rather than bounced them across the kerb and slam them into the road.
There were 3 ATMs on arrival in Milan airport and no queue, so cash took only a few minutes.
We were offered the chanceto detour to the office to pay by credit card (no facilities in car) but we didn't fancy the detour, so we paid in cash.
Will be closing Nationwide Flexaccount now due to increased charges.0
