Quick question about s75 abroad

Just looking for some reassurance here.
If I pay for a return taxi transfer in Italy by Visa (return trip > £100) am I covered by section 75?

We will probably withdraw cash from an ATM at the airport, but dont want to be entirely reliant on this in case it's broken, card doesn't work, huge queue etc.

    Covered for what eventuality?

What are you hoping to claim for, the taxi breaking down and dumping you half way?

I'd say for not turning up for the return trip...

I don't really see the point of the question.

Who are you paying for the Taxi ?
Are you going to get involved in a long wrangle if the taxi doesn't turn up ?
Are you going to sue if they send a black one instead of a blue one ?

To make a claim under S 75, there must be a breach of contract or misrepresentation - the likelihood of that with a taxi hire must be pretty remote - worry about something more likely to happen - a meteorite perhaps !

To answer the question: the Courts have ruled that S 75 does apply overseas - but the card companies will be as awkward and obstructive as they can to persuade you to go away and give up.

    Silly statement.

Nowadays as was with us in Spain you have to pay for both trips in advance if booking by taxi. If for whatever reason the taxi does not turn up then i would have thought asking if your covered under s75 is a perfectly reasonable one.
  • dont book a return

book the taxi you need upon arrival, and when you need your return, you will have had opportunities to get the money to pay for the taxi, just phone it when you need it

Thanks for all you help folks.
    Let me rephrase.

If it turns out to be a fake website, can I claim my money back from VISA?
(It's good to know that fake websites are less common than meteorites though :-)
Will there be any debate about it being 2 X singles and therefore under the £100 limit (we've booked a return transfer).

As far as I can see it's legit, but if there are worries I can get Euros.
I don't particularly want to carry cash and it will ruin my lunchtime, but it's possible.

Just spoken to DH and he has said he's happy to get cash at the airport on arrival (which is what we normally do).
If there is a big queue we'll just have to wait.

In the unlikely event all the machines are empty or broken they have our VISA card as a back up that they can charge (which they took for reservation purposes).

I don't want to spend my holidays arranging a taxi trip back.
For one thing as a dedicated MSE I'll have to work out the hotel phone charges against romaing rates :T
Secondly it's a long trip and the price differences are massive (I'm talking 3 figures here).
    Thirdly I don't speak Italian.
So thanks for the suggestions but I'd rather arrange in advance at a good rate.

Perhaps before you accuse people of writing a "silly statement" you should be in possession of all the facts - which I, and others asked for.
You refer to an incident in Spain, she is going to Italy.

The OP has now amplified the information she gave to enable a reasoned response to her actual problem be given.

lisyloo: a lot of taxis on the continent take credit cards anyway - so you can pay after the event !

I refered to my incident in Spain, which is the very same as the OP's. It was quite obvious to me why the op was asking the question. You were the one making silly and un-needed comments.

"Are you going to sue if they send a black one instead of a blue one ?"

What twaddle..... That shall be the last i say on the matter. Got better things to do.

    Have a nice day.
