Cheap moisturiser - would this work?

  • Thanks Kate - I have the Palmers body lotion (the shimmery one) and it's very nice. Once my new £0.99 pot runs out, I will check that out for next time as my skin goes tight as well. Do you have any ideas for make-up remover that's not too expensive?

The rose oil may be a one-off treat then he he... will prob buy pre-blended.

Also want to get some other essential oils - mainly for the 'use vinegar instead of clothes conditioner' idea as I'd love to add 2 drops of lavender to the vinegar etc. Were is a good place online to get them?

  • Such great ideas - thanks everyone - I might get some neroli oil then and def will be careful about using the lemon oil.

The aquaceous lotion sounds good too!

Any further hints and tips re aromatherapy or home made lotions and positons gratefully received!

  • Neroli oil is citrusy (as far as I know), more like orange than lemon though.

I know we have probably seen the last of the sun, but be careful putting citrus oils on your face as they react to sunlight and could cause your skin to burn, especially orange. Neroli is another expensive one, like rose  .

    From my aromatherpy book

frankincense-is very good for older skin and helps balance oily skin
geranium-smells nice, not too expensive, enlivens pale skin, balances sebum which helps keep skin supple
    lavender-valuable for most skins
rose-useful for all skin types especially, dry or sensitive skin.

Just a quick warning be careful buying some of the expensive oils off ebay there was a seller sending them from Europe, great price, but I bought rose and it was unusable. If you are pregnant also always check that the oils you choose are suitable.

Just a quick tip from a herbalist
The only oils you can put directly onto your skin are lavender and teatree.

  • Thanks Zippy - looks like Lavender and rosewood for me then, rose only if I can afford it. I'm not pregnant so all should be well - just need to find a quality place to buy them... however, being MSE, I have just posted a message on FreeCycle.org for aromatherapy oils... :D:D:D

  • Thanks Aril - I'll be mixing 2-4 drops into a moisturiser (100ml) so should be ok as not putting oils directly onto skin.
