Cheap moisturiser - would this work?

Hi all,
This is my first foray into money-saving - a sort of old style question!
I have seen what seems like a good facial moisturiser in the local £1 store - I have some lemon essential oil - would it be safe to add a few drops to the moisturiser?
I love citrus smells!
This would make a cheap moisturiser instantly feel more expensive - but I won't do it if it will damage my skin in any way.
If it would work, how many drops should I add?
Also, as I have dry skin, was thinking of also adding a few drops of olive oil which is said to be fantastic for skin.
Any thoughts most appreciated :T

This should be fine, lemon is better for greasy skin though, just add a cuple of drops 2-4, depending on the size of the pot.
Rose oil is good for dry skin.

I've known people make lovely smelling foot balm by adding peppermint oil to some plain aqueous cream.0

Thanks all - rose oil is great but sooo expensive - maybe I'll only add 1 drop of lemon oil and 3 of olive oil...
What is aqueous cream?
I do a great foot scrub just with brown sugar and olive oil - it's effective and I always look forward to using it!MFW #185

I would be very careful of using Lemon oil on your face unless you know it's going to be OK....whenever I use citrus in the bath it stings like mad on open pores.
I can reccommend a cheap mosturiser though.... Palmers Unscented cocoa butter lotion, and Superdrug often have it on offer (its only about £3.50 for a huge bottle anyway!)
I was a Clinique girl :embarasse and it took me ages to find a cheapie that I thought was as good - frankly I have to say - the Palmers is as good as Clinique....I just wish (or should that be my Bank Manager just wishes?) that I had discovered it sooner

Yes be careful if you have sensitive skin as lemon oil is quite harsh, meant to add that!Pawpurrs x0

Aqueous cream is a soap substitute/moisturiser that is dead cheap in large tubs from a chemist. Great for sensitive skin as it doesn't contain anything that will irritate.0

I wouldn't recommend using lemon essential oil, as you have dry skin. It really will dry it out more, and if your skin is sensitive, it won't help much, possibly aggrevate it a bit.
Good oils for dry skin are rose (yes, very expensive, but a little goes a long way), lavender, geranium, neroli and marigold. Add 4 drops of essential oil to 50 ml tub of moisturiser with sterile spoon. Leave for about 3 days before using.0 -
Why not mix up a TEENY amount in a separate little tub and do a "patch test" somewhere and see how it goes???
Then you are not making a whole tub of moisturiser unusable if it does not work for you!!!;)
Good luck with it:DLaughing at my ancient signature...voodoobaby now 10 years old:eek:0 -

Thanks Kate - is the Palmers unscented cocoa butter lotion for the face though?
Also, was only planning using a couple of drops lemon oil but now I won't.
I have just bought the Anne French Deep Moisturising Cream in my local £0.99 store (it's a 100ml pot rather than the usual 30 or 50ml you get).
I shall invest in some rose oil and looking forward to trying it! Will I still need to wait 3 days if adding rose oil?MFW #185

Not specifically for the face....when I first saw it on offer I asked a shop assistant the same question, and she said she used it on her face....so I gave it a try (at that price)...I have very sensitive skin, most moisturisers make it go 'tight' I stuck to the Clinique for years as it was the only thing that didn't make my face uncomfortable...it's a brilliant base for foundation too....not greasy
I've never heard of leaving a product for 3 days after you made it - I never have, but be prepared to fall off your legs in horror at the price of rose essential oil  a lot of the shops that sell it, sell it already blended into a base oil to keep the price down.
