what to buy a 9year old for birthday?

my son will be 9years old in 2 mths time:eek:

I have no idea what to buy him.
He already had a DS and Wii. He likes electronci games, but i think he had enough and i dont want him to just play games all the time. He has lots of lego but that is played with only occasionally.
he is not into cars.
He likes club penguin and star wars and playing football.

Any ideas welcome please (my budget is around £30 as i need to spend on his party and buy him some clothes too).

Hello there, my son is 9 on Tuesday and has been going on about the Hexbug Nano which are on Amazon and not too expensive, could give you feedback after he has received it on Monday.
We have also bought him the Top Trumps board game, I liked this idea because I feel they learn something at the same time and he always enjoys a game of Top Trumps.
I'm going to make my own cake this year to save some money and take him to the cinema on the day as its cheap Tuesday :j

My little boy sounds exactly the same as yours. The one thing he really enjoys is a toy called hot wires by John Adams toys - you can get it on Amazon or Argos (I think). Educational and really good play value.
  • What about one of those experiment kit's my DS loves those especially the gory ones :D Circuit boards are good too. They have a good selection in Smyths.

[Aside question - what is the name of the other school magazine that is issued at holidays similar to Primary Times. Sure it begins with an R but cant recall the name/website.]

Things that are universal popular with our oldest kids - DD1 10, DS1 8 and DS2 6 and their friends are: a basic chemistry set, a microcope, a telescope, scooters/skateboards, technical lego, moon in my room, marble run. Last year we got them (to share) a basic tool kit - screwdriver, electric drill, hammer, a few nails, tape measure....etc and we let them loose on spare bits of wood, broken chairs....etc (supervised of course ;)) and they absolutely LOVE it. Not for the faint hearted though, some of DS2's friends parents have expressed concern (thinly veiled disapproval ;)) but that activity is strictly for our own children!!

He is still asking me for more Lego. He already has a number of different kits, but most are now hardly used! He really wants the Star wars lego sets but i am reluctant to buy more lego just to sit on a shelf!

The electronic set sounds like a good idea. I will check out WHS.

Have you asked your son what he would like?

Hard cash and get him to choose, i.e. train early for MSE.

Yes, my 10 year old only wanted 2 things, one we couldnt find anywhere and she got the other thing from us (Paper Jamz guitar). The rest of the family gave money which she put in a savings account until there is something she would like.
