Hi all,
Im very keen to sign up with O2 for home broadband internet access. The problem is that I move to this flat and I dont have a landline to sign up for broadband so i use bt line checker at my address and it says my line can handle up to 7.5mb. I take it as there is a bt landline at my flat but it is not activated yet?!
Im trying to sign up O2 with their home phone broadband because I want the bill for telephone line and broanband from one supplier i.e. O2 but it said that I can't get it because I need to have O2 broadband first before I can get O2 home phone. So im a little lost as I thought I could sign up with O2 broadband complete with their home phone!
From my understanding, I need to have BT telephone line first before I can sign up for O2 broadband? It doesn't matter about O2 home phone, is that correct?
Cheers

Your post is ambiguous-is there a BT line at the property or not? If you didn't put a phone number in, then the speed is just an estimation based on the postcode-but probably fairly accurate with O2.
To sign up for O2 broadband and home phone you need an active BT line, as O2 do not currently do reconnections or new line installs. So whether there is an inactive line there or no line at all (the price is the same) you will first need to get an active line before you can get your broadband.
O2 Home Phone is only available with or as a bolt on to 02 Broadband-it is not a standalone service. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Hmm I think i have hit nail in my head here but yes you are right, im being ambiguous so let me get this straight. I have no idea if there is a BT line or not in my flat ( its on a 16 floors building), I went to BT website to check for broadband and I noticed a box said check your speed and since I dont know the telephone number or if I even have one so i selected "I'm not with BT" and then entered my flat number + name and post code. A window pop up said maximum connection speed 7.5Mb.
How do I find out if I already got a BT telephone line? I dont want to pay 120 something flat fee to install one because if that is the case, I might as well go with VM cable broadband as I can get it in my area.

Look inside the property for a BT line box. Or ask the tenants/agent/landlord/owners if there is a line currently installed.
You don't have to use BT to reconnect or install a line.
Unless the block itself is already cabled for VM, I doubt that they'll be able to connect you-they're not going to run a line up 16 floors just to connect you! And you would need the freeholder's permission anyway. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
BT line box? Do you mean phone socket? Because I have 2 inside my flat!! How can I check to see if they live?
I used my laptop once just to see if there is any wireless AP and not even one around...so I dont know if people live in that block need Internet at all. Also Im kinda afraid to ask my neighbours because people seem to mind their own business there, I been to the flat to decorate +paint and some cleaning but haven't spent a nite in it yet as it is empty. Moving stuff and get furniture in tomorrow and this weekend so right now im trying to sort out internet, get ready for next month.
It is a council flat so I dont think i need permission or anything like that, right?!
There was an engineer came to install the new digital TV socket for every house in the block but im not sure that would be the same for VM.0 -
Plug in a handset...
If there is a dial tone then dial 17070 to get the number. If no dial tone then you need the line reconnecting in order to get ADSL broadband.
You would certainly need permission to run a cable up to the 16th floor! Just call VM to ask if they can service the block.
Digital TV may just be a Freeview system. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
I will see if i can borrow a handset somewhere and will call VM to find out if they can service the block! lol
TY macman! You're the man
