time for specs

Hi
Hope it's ok to post this in this forum. Wasn't sure where else to post and a search didn't bring anything up.
Can anyone recommend where to buy glasses from? Got my eye test booked with Tesco next week but don't recall them having many frames to choose from.
Thanks!

Depends what you end up needing.

My OH has to have "proper" glasses so buys them from whatever place is doing the best deal. (last time it was two for one)
I can do with simple reading glasses.

I get mine from Costco - £15 for 3 pairs.
  • Hi.
    What's "OH"?
It will be my first pair so not sure what I need although last time I had a test they said there is a small prescription. I work on computers for about 12 hours a day and I now find it hard to tell certain letters apart compared to last year.
    Thanks

I was happy with Boots last time, but I do have a complicated prescription.

    OH ="Other half"

    A small prescription means what?
What prescription did you get as a result of your last eye test?

You may get away with things that magnify the images, in which case you will save a lot of money

i went to specsavers, very reasonable starting from 29quid
if you spend over 79 i think it was you got a 2nd pair free
they also done a local discount with our store if you shopped at wilkinsons and brought a recent receipt you got 20quid off your glasses. so we done that and saved 40 quid me and my dh

    Hi
I have just got glasses, I went to TESCO. Very quick, good service.

They were two for one, total £79 for two pairs each with different lenses and frames. I have a pair for reading and another pair for distance. They do some frames for £10 too.
Doing voluntary work overseas for as long as it takes .......
My DD might make the odd post for me

Do you think it's worth paying extra for anti-glare and anti-scratch coatings? In the past I've paid extra because the optician recommended them, but they seem to constantly need cleaning with the coatings on the glasses.

If you are going to be wearing them most of the time then I really would suggest taking PLENTY of time and trying lots on in the shop. If you can't find anything you are comfortable with then try another optician as well. Very importantly take a friend/partner with you, it is hard to objectively tell how they look on your face (I know there are mirrors but it just isn't the same as someone looking at you from a slight distance).

This won't sound very MSE but providing you can afford it and you'll be wearing the glasses for most of the day go by what fits your face and is light and comfortable and well made, not price. I'm wearing glasses for about 14 hours a day, just about everything else I have I use less and isn't attached to my face so there are a hundred other things I'd rather save money on that glasses.

I always use vision Express, pricey but very good service and range and they can do any adjustments on the spot if ever you need them in the future.
