BEKO waching machine and beko customer service.

hi all a vent/warning really.

i purchased a beko wm5140w 1400 spin waching machine 16 months ago on credentials that beko was of good build quality.

i have not used the waching machine excessivly and never overloaded it only filling drum to 3/4 full maximum.

last week the machine had a funny burning smell to it when the pump kicked in so switched off machine at plug.

took lid off machine to inspect the funny burning smell to discover that the main control panel (pcb) had infact burnt out, theres a burt out hole in the board with signs of fire:eek:!!. good job turned off at plug and not on/off switch.

allthough out of warranty my expectations of a waching machine's life span is much longer than 16 months for £200+ brand new machine would you agree?.

you would expect that a part of load bearing like the belt or alternator bushes or even the pump to fail but not the machines non loadbearing part like a PCB main control board.

i called beko customer services as this was a part you wouldnt expect to break in such short time to see if the model had a recall on it dut to possible fire hazard as no fuse tripped on plug or house fuse box when the pcb caught fire, there wasnt, beko wasnt interested in replacing the part or meeting half way with cost of part as out of warranty allthough they have a fund in place to repair replace parts that are faulty after the 12 month warranty expires they will fix or replace parts fo anywhere upto two months outside warrenty mine being 4 weeks outside this they wouldnt do nothing.

they were rude and unfriendly to say the least and suggested that my house hold electrics were the cause of the fault and should get my electrics checked! the house is of housing association and yearly checks are carried out on boiler and electric sockets, fuse box's etc.

they wouldnt even allow me to speak with a manager or supervisour and hung up the phone in mid convorsation.

anyone else had any trouble with this kind of fault with BEKO i wouldnt recomend their products to anyone, poor build quility with a price tag on thier products.

Whats the point chasing Beko, you contract is the place you bought it and nothing to do with Beko, i suggest you take it up with them.

And Beko to me are a budget brand built to a very low price point
  • Beko are cheap crap. Having said that it should still last longer than 16 months. Go back to the people who sold it to you. Having said that you might have to swallow the cost and either have the pcb replaced or buy a new machine. Please however next time use a surge protector.

We have had Beko appliances for 7 years with hardly a whisper of trouble, they have a very good 'Which' reputation, and are very good value for money. There are occasionally bad ones as with most mechanical appliances, but from our experience they are most certainly not cheap crap.

the point in chasing beko is because its out of warranty so the retailer cannot be responsable they would only be responsable if it were under 12 month old their contract with me ran out the day the warranty run out.

2 its a possible hazard that they may have had complaints about in the past and may warent a product recall.

3 i wanted to tell them how C R A P their product was for self satisfacation!

i have also e-mailed beko and had a reply and they are looking into the matter they requested photos of the fault, serial number and product retailer.

so if they provide me with a pcb at 50/50 cost or free it would of been worth contacting them!

i cannot go back to the people who sold it to me as it run out of warranty in april this year, the retailer is not resposable for the prduct after warranty so falls back to the manufacturer.

have got one plugged into it as my tumble is plugged into it also surge protector did nothing!!

    Wrong !

Its nothing to do with Beko and they can tell you to get lost if they wish , they do not have to do anything

Your contract is who sold it to you.

I suggest you read up on the sales of good act

Oh dear. They probably though here we go.....
There's not an alternator on the machine, it's a motor.

The pcb is load bearing, it carries lots of current.

Wrong. A warranty is in addition to statutory rights, and your statutory rights can last up to 6 years.

And if you bought it with a credit card, don't forget section 75. Often easier to get a solution from a credit card company who really don't want the hassle of dealing with the problem and will just charge any cost back to the retailer, than dealing with a thicko retailer who denies the existence of your statutory rights.
  • Hi,
I also had a problem with a Beko washing machine. Fortunately mine was still under guarantee at the time (just). However they tried to charge me a call out fee which I resisted, and to cut a long story short had to enlist the help of a consumer right's group to get them to forfeit the charge (out of the goodness of their heart according to them) Similarly, I also had a Beko fridge and freezer which packed in weeks after the guarantee expired. Seems like the build quality is lacking. No more Beko for me! I think you should continue to complain about this though, it's worth a try! Good luck

    OK UPDATE:

BEKO are sending a new part for my machine and apologised for the lack of understanding toward the complaint over the phone. even though i said they could meet me 50.50 with the part the are sending it free of chrage via next day courier.

goes to show that manufacturers can be sympothetic in somecases
