02 Locked Phone - Tesco Sim?

Good Evening MSE Buddies,

Can someone please confirm or advise me:

I have a phone which is locked to the O2 Network and want to give my son a phone to use but on the Tesco Network, Will the Tesco sim card work ok in the O2 locked phone?

Although Tesco uses the O2 network, it is still an alternative SIM and will not work in an O2 locked phone.

My Tesco iphone sim WILL work with my oh O2 iphone so I would have thought it would work the other way round.

Just to let you know this is not the case!

I called in to Tesco Mobile shop and they told be it was fine, I bought one and it works in the O2 phone no problem
