Re-Filling A Lexmark Printer Cartridge

Options
We have just re-filled our newish Lexmark 5405 printers blue colour cartridge with J.R. Inkjet Refill Ink, and we are now getting a message to say we need to replace the cartridge. I'm aware that the cartridge has some sort of chip in it but does anyone know of a way round this or am I just going to bite the bullet and buy another cartridge

Some printers require to be put in a maintenance mode in order that you force them to accept the new refilled cartridge. It's usually a case of pressing a few buttons then running a program

    What's your printer model ?

You don't say what model printer you have, and I'm right out of ESP at this moment in time - but it's odds on that the chip in your printer cartridge needs resetting to show the new ink level.

How you go about that process (if there is a process that works) all depends on what hardware you have.

Did you actually read the post?

It's a common problem for when you refill them yourself the printer throws a wobbly and reports the cartridge as still empty, so you either have to replace it or you have to refill it and then reset it to trick the printer again into seeing it as being full with a tool like MPTool / IPTool (for Canon) and SSCServe (for Epsom)

To the OP. Please let us know your model of printer. Should be an easy fix

Dont buy a new cartridge just bin the whole think and buy an Epson printer a lot cheaper to run than any lexmark and if you are trying to refill then you must be looking at costs.

  • Thanks for your replies. The model number is S405 and its an all singing dancing model that copies, scans, faxes and prints. (when its full of ink!)
We have only had it for four weeks and hardly done any printing.
I don't really think that ditching it and buying yet another one is an excercise in money saving.

Better still, dump the Lexmark and buy a Brother Printer, no problems at all with mine, I have 4 of them.

Cartridges are as cheap as chips.;)
