Just realised I have no counterpart!

It depends on the company. I just had this problem - I bought insurance a couple of months ago, and they wanted a copy of both sides of my licence and the counterpart. I went to send a copy of my counterpart and couldn't find it. I ordered a new one and told the insurance company what was happening. They kept sending me snotty letters demanding it in first two weeks, then a week or it would be cancelled. I finally got it sent to them, and it was all fine - and then the original bleeding counterpart turned up!
