Don't bother with Cento - do it yourself!

We paid Cento £149 a year ago to claim back our PPI from Northern Rock. After sending in all the evidence/forms/cheques for £10 they asked for, we got a letter back saying they were able to proceed with a claim; they said they were passing the claim to their agents, Legal Redress Ltd because "of their track record in getting our clients compensation payments quickly and efficiently". :rotfl:We have chased Cento and Legal Redress at least 10 times, and were told every time that they "can't lay their hands on the file" and they will call us back. We have never had a call back  Needless to say, I'm now persuing the claim myself and have asked Cento to refund the £149, which they readily agreed to - let's see if they do! If anyone is thinking of using either of these companies - that's CENTO CLIENT REVIEW and LEGAL REDRESS LTD - DON'T!!! Do it yourself. Remember, if others have done it, you can too!!

Well said. Just make sure that you send it in writing so that they do not sting you for more money. Good luck to youWe paid Cento £149 a year ago to claim back our PPI from Northern Rock. Yeah, definately get it in writing that you are now not in their contract as they could easily say (if you win) that they won the money and take you for some more.0

hi
We had a phone call saying we can claim some ppi back which was mis-sold to us but company would not say where they got our name and no from only that it was from a 'database' any ideas where to begin looking cause I can't think where this could of been mis-sold to me from
thanks for any help in advance0 -
:mad:hI we have been going through a company (have to pay 25% & VAT) and have been informed by loan company in writing that we will receive £30k less 25% & VAT. Obviously we were very happy about this and as we were told would be within in our bank within 28 days started to make plans and sort our self out.
Now the loan company has said over the phone that they made an error in the letter and will only pay £6k to us and the rest off our loan. The £6k is not enough to pay the company who did the work. Its a nightmare
any ideas please?0 -
These companies do have databases but often they are purchased from some dodgy website. On these databases are lists of people and loans they have had in the past. They then just cold call you and "guess" that you had PPI in the hope you will let them rip you off some more. IF you had any PPI sold to you that you did not want then reclaiming it yourself is not difficult and I would certainly steer clear of using ANY company to do it for you.0

This is the way these companies seem to be working now and the only thing we can suggest is to look closely at your terms and conditions in the hope you can argue them. See if you could argue that it was not made clear to you that they would be taking money from you for "unpaid" PPI as a percentage.:mad:hI we have been going through a company (have to pay 25% & VAT) and have been informed by loan company in writing that we will receive £30k less 25% & VAT. When Cento called us in July 2009, they said that because Northern Rock had been found guilty of mis-selling PPI, they had been forced to disclose all their customers' names who they'd sold PPI to - our names were apparently on that list. I've never been able to find such a list on the internet though.0

Hi there, you should check any loan or cc agreements that you may still have, or if you settled accounts previous, you may have settlement figure paperwork, look at old bank statements for payments made,or dd as these will maybe have account numbers for loans.you could even get a copy of your credit file (£2 ) as any credit you have had will show on there, if you are not sure if you had ppi on any of these, then do as i did (i had 3 loans) then write to the banks with account numbers and make a claim for mis sell of ppi and see what reply you get.Do the claiming yourself, it is so easy and you will get all the help you need on this site

I've sent my letter to Cento dispensing with their services, with copies to Legal Redress, Ministry of Justice, Northern Rock and Financial Services Ombudsman for good measure. Coincidentally (not) a letter arrived yesterday from another of Cento/Legal Redress' aliases, CCR Claims, telling us that "new legislation has recently come into place which enables them to complete the assessment of our claim" and asking for a new cheque to Northern Rock as the one we sent a year ago is now invalid. Funny, we had a letter from Northern Rock months ago saying they had already released the information to Cento/Legal Redress/CCR. The letter also said they enclosed our original cheque, which they didn't.
Also had a phone call today from Money Claiming Experts "in response to my letter". How many guises do these people have? :undecided I told the caller that it wasn't a convenient time and could she call me back in a couple of hours - needless to say, they didn't!
If they're going to charge 30% of any settlement for their services, they could at least make a token effort to seem like they know what they're doing :doh:0 -
No response yet from Cento, but MoJ and FOS both responded to the copies of my letter to Cento. MoJ want to know if I don't get a response from Cento within 28 days.
I'm still getting together all the info I need to start claiming back the PPI myself. However, when I looked out the paperwork from when we took out our mortgage in 2002, I've found the following:
Northern Rock "strongly recommended" in a letter that we take out PPI with L & G, so we did (I've found a copy of the application form - I'd completely forgotten we did that!). NR told us the first 6 months' cover would be free and then premiums would be paid direct to L & G. I know we don't have any payments going out to L & G and no premiums show on our NR mortgage statement, so now I'm doubting whether we actually have PPI (even though Cento assured me that we do when they cold called us, and even told me what the premium is). How can I find out? Should I just call NR or L & G and ask them?
I have a feeling we've been led up the garden path by Cento in more ways than one!!0
