if selling a phone that will fetch more than 40 quid dont allow paypal.. or there is a good chance you will be scammed

are you mad??? of course allow someone to pay by paypal, just make sure through your paypal account that the money is definately in there dont just go on emails saying it is

a lot of people who are buying an expensive item like having the payment protection paypal give

the best way to to when you list your item send only within the UK and you are able to block bidders who are not within the UK

Good advice... but that's not the only problem you can have with a paypal payment. They could be paying you with a stolen card, which means that 4 weeks down the line the money will be taken off you and there's nothing you can do. Or the address could be unconfirmed, which invalidates your seller protection.

Bottom line... yes, paypal is lovely and safe for buyers, but sellers have several risks to take into account.

By the way OP: remember RM WON'T insure you to send a phone overseas.

  • so would i be able to cancel any bids i wante? for example if they had 0 or very low feedback?
i know you can not accept bids for 0 feedback but how about very low?
    mmmm free stufffffffff :p
  • I sold my phone for £211 earlier this week, and it sorta freaked me out because the final price was above average. I e-mailed the buyer to ask for a phone number and I actually rang him up to confirm his existance, although I did it in a really nice way. I blocked bidders with 0/-ve feedback, no credit card on file, non-UK accounts, etc.

The sale went well and I've already got his positive feedback from the sale.

Another thing to consider is ppl e-mailing sellers to do a quick sale for a low price. One did that to me and asked for £120 buy-it-now option. I declined and he continued to harrass me by sending me links of auctions with *days* to go and with no bids in hope that I'd crumble and succumb to his offer. I got a far better final auction price - days later, he was deregistered.

    ive listed and done that.

    what phone did you sell?
ive put a buy ti now on mine for nowhere near that amount!

  • I sold a Nokia E61. :) And it's sim-locked. For some reason, my buyer thinks it's safer to buy from me than to buy from other auctions.

    What phone are you selling?
  • the last phone i sold was only delivered to the uk and personal cheque/postal order, no scam but thankfully i have been doing this years so i know all the tricks :rotfl:

THE ONLY WAY... to sell stuff like this is to advertise on your listing you'll be happy to sell locally at a discount.

I dont care if that breaches ebay policy but I do it all the time.

Email the people with decent ratings who were just outibid on a similar fone and say I have one, in in the edinburgh area, if you want mine for cash that would be cool!! Chances are if you email 10 people or so youll get one reasonably local whose interested.

Obviously do it cheaper as you wont incur ebay and paypal fees anyway.

    More lousy advice....

If you email people who've lost out on an auction, you are running a good risk of getting reported for spamming. It's a great way to get suspended.

go onto your `my ebay` page
    click on preferences

you can bar bidders that have
    any non paying bidder strikes

feedback of less than 25(various amounts)

that have minus feedback ie -1

    there are various other catergories
as well that I cant remember offhand.

Also you can have a pre-aproved bidders
list as well,so you can decide exactly who
you want to bid on this.I tend to
use this particular one as a last resort

Myself anything like this I only have
for sale in the UK I dont let overseas
    bidders bid.

I had a grim experiance selling
my Sony digital camera first time round
second time round did all of the above
and it sold trouble free, plus I always use
special delivery for this type of stuff,
no exceptions, that in its self saves a
load of hassle from would be postal scammers.
