Daughter in student house has the above router and is hardwire connected. Everything was fine untill she encrypted it tonight. She had to use the installation disc to encrypt because the http://192.168.1.1 address to the router will not load properly. It half loads and she cannot click on advanced.
She can get on hardwired of course but the other 2 who use it wireless cant. She has been able to put the passphase in and it says lo or limited or low connectivity and a yellow triangle. she has the option to repair but it will not repair. it is connected apparently but she still cant get on the net. Is hexa decimal the right one for a passphase? it was on personal before but she changed it alpha numeric only had 5 digits to fill in so couldnt take the passphase. This was before she tried logging on through windows
Its said a few different things at different stages at one time it said problem occured because network did not assign network address to computer, it was saying excellent either signal or connection but theres still the triangle

If she chooses wpa-psk (the most secure), she should be able to paste the 63 character alphanumeric key, after she pastes it, it may appear as less *****, but the 64 characters should be there. Then if she pastes the same key into her windows config, it should connect.
Is she using firefox or IE?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
internet explorer. She was just basically encrypting it first as shes got in a mess with just that shes using wep 64 bit. I dont know why she cant veiw the router config thing by that address either but this was done with the set up disc so just dont understand it. she chose a word then it generated a passphase she needs to just do it basically first. the encryption went through ok anyway its just they cant get on the net apart from her as shes hardwiredThanx

She could try setting it up on one of the other PC's, if IE doesn't work.Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0

She cant set it up on one of the other pcs the modem is in her room. Do you mean the address to the router config? well she could get firefox if that would help but I still wouldnt know what to say to do once she can get in thereThanx

IE is better than firefox, and should work.. someone else here had problems with firefox the other day on a router interface, which is why I mentioned it.
She could plug it into another PC, to see if she can get to 192.168.1.1 without it being connected to the phone line.
Read your PMs..Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
thanx it may be that she can do the same things with the installation cd but she was worried about messing with that in case she ended up having to reinstal it after the probls she had getting it on
at one stage it said
when she clicks repair it says windows could not finish repairing the problem
because the following action cannot be completed dissabling the wireless network adaptorThanx

On my linksys router we never got the encryption to work. Even if we put the right access codes in it wouldn't have any data going through. Just reset it in the end0

You really should have another go at setting up encryption as it is not wise to run an unencrypted wireless network. It is not difficult and you will get help here with any problems that you may have.

Any ideas on why she cant get the router ip address page to fully load?
She wanted to at least do access control untill this encryption thing is worked out and I dont think it gves you the choice for access control setting with the installation cd, she set the encryption with it though. I cant believe hw easy its supposed to be and shes having so much troubleThanx
